It seems as though he was asked a question, and he answered it.
I kind of doubt he went and tracked this camera guy down just so he could pop off about not liking women's MMA.
It is Hughes though, so for some people the above is probably their exact perception of how things went down. That second post of this thread shows that off pretty good.
I'm assuming that he is either referencing Hughes leaving MFS and taking some guys with him to HIT Squad, or the allegations of Hughes sleeping with Pat Miletich's wife which seem to be completely unfounded.
The stuff Dana swept under the rug for him, I assume, were some vague allegations that swept Sherdog about raping somebody, though those seemed to have even less basis then the Miletich thing.

Geez, that Hughes must be some character. I read the dust jacket from his book, he seemed like a good dude.

A lot of it came from the anti-Hughes sentiment, methinks. Now that attitude on SHerdog and the like towards Hughes has considerably mellowed, you don't see this type of stuff popping up.

I just get a little squeamish watching women hit each other. I was raised never to hit a woman, so it's a little weird. It's a conflicting emotion, because that women's fight on EliteXC was exciting, but also bothered me. It's hard to describe.
Nobody is trying to stop you. All I (or Hughes, apparently) said was that he didn't enjoy watching it, and if he was asked to vote (which he isn't) he would vote against the UFC bringing it.
I agree, I have seen several exciting female fights but I still do not really like seeing women get beat up. I will say that despite not like watching it I would not vote against them having the ability to fight, that is if I actually had a vote that was worth anything.

I think that it will take time for people to get used to women's MMA. I remember when I first started wrestling, people were really against the idea of us wrestling and we even had our world team trials separate from the men since I guess the idea of mixing the events wasn't too popular.
Now that women's wrestling is an Olympic sport, it is starting to become more widely accepted.
Hopefully some other mainstream MMA orgs aside from EliteXC will embrace the idea of women's MMA since I do believe that the fights are very exciting. Once people see it more, they might get used to it and be more supportive.
It would also help to have more women participating in MMA classes at a recreational level. That way the guys get used to seeing that women enjoy training in the sport on a daily basis and are not just exposed to it once in a while by seeing it on tv at the highest level.
I know that a few of the guys were skeptical when I first walked into the MMA class at the gym I was training in when I lived in NYC, but when they see you are serious and can hang in there with the guys (if not teach them a lot about wrestling) they are much more accepting of it. So far I have been pretty lucky in terms of the guys being accepting and willing to train with me. The guys here in IL have been pretty cool about it thus far as well.
Boys, please remember that our bodies are designed to push a child out of our vaginas. We can take punches. Please remember the gruesomeness of the miracle of life when you take issue - rationally or irrationally - with women's mma.
