Thread: UFC 86: Jackson v. Griffin

Default UFC 86: Jackson v. Griffin

With their season of TUF ending tonight focus should turn now to this card. I suppose we all need to hope and pray that Rampage or Forrest doesn't go down with an injury during the short gap between the end of the show and their fight.

This is a nice looking card regardless though.

    Main Card
    Quinton Jackson v. Forrest Griffin
    Ricardo Almeida v. Patrick Cote
    Josh Koscheck v. Chris Lytle
    Tyson Griffin v. Marcus Aurelio
    Joe Stevenson v. Gleison Tibau

    Preliminary Card
    Gabriel Gonzaga v. Justin McCully
    Jorge Gurgel v. Cole Miller
    Melvin Guillard v. Dennis Siver
    Justin Bucholz v. Corey Hill
    Ben Saunders v. Jared Rollins
    RIP Jacob Schlottke - 1984-2011

If those are picks, I agree with every one of them.

Griffin v. Aurelio is the best match up on the card in my opinion, but I think Griffin should win rather handily if he employs the strategy that Guida did when he beat Aurelio last August.

Stay up on the feet with him to try and break him down a little bit, and then pick his spots for the TD's. Tyson has absolutely nasty leg kicks so that probably would be very effective.

The prospect of a highlight reel sub is always there though when Aurelio is fighting.

3 outta five aint bad on the main card. I wish I was going mainly to see Rampage put the hurt to Forrest and Almeida/Cote(toss up)

Agreed. Jackson matches up VERY well with Griffin. Griffin's best hope is his slick, but under-utilized ground game. The problem there is that Rampage has shown himself VERY adept at not getting submitted on the ground. I see Rampage either pounding out a decision with GnP, or more likely a late stoppage, as Forrest seems quite durable.

I think Forrest takes this one. He has the hunger and focus. It should be a great fight. We all know that Forrest will leave it all out there. Hope Rampage comes in shape.

With the exception of their biggest names (which don't necessarily result in the best fights, although I expect this main event to be pretty good), the free cards are as good as the PPV events. For instance I think the April UFC (with Egar-Maynard) was as good as anything you pay for (of course the YE event was exciting since it had Wand-Chuck and Matt-GSP)
