Mayweather v. De La Hoya

No disrepect here, but if you didn't watch the fight, you can't say he outboxed him. Arguing semantics here is minor, but I watched every second of it and the stats don't tell the story.

I watched it, and I personally think De La Hoya won the total fight, not just the last four rounds, which I would concede three to Mayweather.

Mayweather's own father, Mayweather Sr also felt De La Hoya won the fight, telling the HBO audience. "I thought Oscar won the fight on points, threw more punches and was more aggressive," adding: "My son had good defense and caught a lot of his punches, but I still thought Oscar pressed enough to win the fight."

Mayweather's dad and mayweather have a bad relathionship. Oscar has been more loyal to him then his own son. So of course if the fight is close, he's gonna say Oscar won.

if this was "THE FIGHT" that was going to revive boxing i think that this was not a shot in the arm but more like a shot in the foot

I'm with Dartshark. If Oscar wouldn't have pressed the fight, there would have been nothing going on. Mayweather didn't wanna press anything cuz he knew he'd be opening up to get hit. And for Mayweather landing 43% of his punches, it's not that hard to have a good stat like that when you only throw 9 punches the entire fight.

Punches:
Oscar De La Hoya: 122 of 587 for a total of 21% landed
Floyd Mayweather Jr: 207 of 481 for a total of 43% landed

Power shots:
Oscar De La Hoya: 82 of 341 for a total 24% landed
Floyd Mayweather Jr: 138 of 241 for a total of 57% landed.

What's considered a power shot? There's no way either of them landed that many power shots. I think thats a bs statistic personally, b/c when I think of power shot I think of a hit that snaps the head back, or you can tell hurt the guy. Also, it's hard to have a high accuracy rate when you're chasing the guy the entire time.

So you are basically saying that only fighters who come forward all of the time are allowed to win. Hmm.... given those standards fellows like Pep, Ali, Robinson in many of his fights, Leonard in many of his fights, Whitaker, and Benitez, all should never have won a fight.

Lousy fight. The announce crew sucked, someone please shutup Max Kellerman and crew. Kellerman could't call a one horse race. he has an encyclopedic knowledge of the sport but can't apply it. It was obvious from the first round PBF was fighting amatuer, lots of fast punches that don't land (DLH picked them off with gloves, elbows and shoulders). Kellerman had the first round to PBF when it was at best (for PBF) even. In reality he lost that.

It was round six or so before the clueless announce crew caught on that DLH was catching the punches then even the announce crew began to question the punch stats. PBF ran and ran, there was no fight abscent DLH pushing it. DLH also pushed PBF straight back on his heels too many times to count. PBF was handled by a part time fighter.

DLH did not get the nod for two reasons:

1. PBF is the favorite son, he's younger and has more fights in him

2. DLH promoted this fight.

Promoters can make money off of PBF, they can't off DLH. PBF loses and his money making potential goes down. DLH took money out of some very powerful peoples pocket with this fight (not to mention Hopkins/Wright), I would hazard a guess the judges know where their bread is buttered. The suscess of this fight is also a slap in the face to Arum/King, Golden Boy out did them by any measure.

Exactly coming forward and not landing punches dosen't give you a win.
