He is around 40 but still in relatively decent shape, and I think he wants to add a victory to his resume as no one wants to end there career 0-1. I will do my part to help him out but I hope this isnt shades of Ken Shamrock and Tank Abbott hanging on too long and fighting cans to try to relive their glory days.

As for myself I am taking it one step at a time. I have tournaments lined up for March and April and after I win the April won I will have my flight and entry fee paid to compete in grapplers quest in Vegas which is held in May.

I want to make sure I am fully prepared before I step into the cage. Thecobras fight against Mr. Jackson is proof that even talent will not save you if you are not properly prepared and conditioned.
How old are you PJ? You and thecobra look about the same age, perhaps you a year or two older, (at least from the photos we saw of the two of you in Las Vegas).

We may want to advise thecobra to take on a different trainer, (your boy Jake Herbert and his tapping out in wrestling matches leave us wondering about you Northwestern boys) he might join the quick tap club that you are so proud of.

In any event, we look forward to you winning the "April won" and seeing you in Las Vegas. If you really do attend, I will be there to watch you and my buddy greco zag take on the competition.
    Lets go Brent!

Ah thank you for pointing out a typo, I can usually count on that after I hammer you and have you flustered.

Cobra does look pretty young for his age, I had no idea that he had turned 40 I was thinking maybe only 32 or 33. His bones are probably getting brittle at this point so he may not have time to tap before his old bones shatter.

I am starting to get old myself but I still have my boyish good looks thankfully.

I have reviewed your post twice now, and I don't see any typo. Perhaps we can agree to disagree. You may be correct about thecobra and his old bones, perhaps it is best if he employs you and Herberts tactic of quick tapping, should he find himself in a joint manipulation. We've seen tapes of him from years ago and although he didn't quit then, perhaps your philosophy of safety first is best suited for him. He couldn't have picked a better trainer IMO.

I think he was so exhausted he was physically unable to tap. One thingIll make sure to do is work on his conditioning. It does take some mental toughness to dedicate yourself and train hard every day, so we will see if he has it in him.

If it's mental strength you're worried about, I think he's shows us many times over that while others like Jake Herbert for example, tap out to a simple power half during a wrestling match, or yourself even when caught in basic chokes, he's willing to stay in there and take an a$$ whoopin, if that's what's called for. Sure he could have quit too, tapping doesn't take much effort at all, but he's shown us that he can not only be the hammer, he can be the nail too.

If we know one thing about thecobra, it's that his heart and courage are not in question one bit. Now I'm torn about him trianing with your camp. We've seen great warriors reduced to shells of themselves after joining up with mediocre training partners. I'll reserve judgment for now, pending what I see at the April won and after direct communication with thecobra himself. For all we know, you are making this up simply to draw attention to your upcoming submission wrestling event. What division are you again, purple belt? Which ever it is, excellent pj, we are very proud of you.

Haha yes Jake Herbert is not mentally tough, good one old ball coach.

I dont need thecobra to bring attention to my competitions. Heck I have a blog on another forum speaking about that.

I know it is hard to believe that the cobra is making another run at the mma so I dont blame you for questioning me. When I first heard it from him I thought the old man should just hang it up and let the past be the past. An 0-1 career is a little embarrassing but at least he got in there in the first place. I just hope another loss doesnt lead him to act like Villesenor and beat up on untrained civilians, but I guess you gotta get your wins where you can.

Nobody's bashing Jake Herbert, get your panties out of a bunch.. We all like him as a competitor and the few who know him personally, seem to think he's a pretty nice guy. We're discussing him tapping out in a match during last seasons midlands tournament. If he doesn't mind tapping out in front of the world, I'm sure he doesn't mind us discussing it. If he's anything like his buddy p jersey, I'm sure we'll all get to see him tap many more times in the future. Fair enough?
