Default Phil Davis knee injury forces him out of UFC 133

Phil Davis Out of UFC 133 Main Event Due to Injury - MMAFrenzy.com

Undefeated light heavyweight Phil Davis has been forced to withdraw from the UFC 133 main event against former champion Rashad Evans due to a knee injury ?Mr. Wonderful? recently suffered less than a month before the August 6 pay-per-view event in Philadelphia. The news was first reported late Tuesday by MMAFighting.

Davis (9-0) opened his UFC career with five straight victories, with his most recent win coming by unanimous decision over Antonio Rogerio Noguiera in March. Evans (15-1-1) has not seen Octagon action since defeating Quinton ?Rampage? Jackson by unanimous decision at UFC 114 in May of last year.

Lyoto Machida is rumored to be the front-runner to step in and rematch Evans at UFC 133, with the UFC is expected to announce Davis? injury and the new main event for UFC 133 as soon as Tuesday night.

To avoid criticism say nothing, do nothing, be nothing.

Tito Ortiz has been named the replacement. He and Evans fought to a draw a couple of years ago with one point being deducted from Tito for grabbing the fence.

    Dana White on Phil:

Davis' MRI results came back and we pulled him. He couldn't kickbox for 2 1/2 weeks in the preparation for the fight and we couldn't do that to him and we knew we had Machida ready so we pulled him out.

Phil Davis has a strain or a sprain, not a tear. Could Phil have continued? Yes. But he couldn't continue at full strength. He's a young kid, he's undefeated and he could have totally blown it out and gotten even more hurt a week before the fight instead. He wanted to continue to fight. He'll be back as soon as he's 100% against a top 10 guy in the light heavyweight division.
