Thread: Diego Sanchez moving to 155

Default Diego Sanchez moving to 155

I just read it on his myspace.

Kind of odd as he had talked about it after the Fitch fight then decided to stay at 170. I wonder if seeing what Alves did to Koscheck had an impact on the decision.

He mentioned this years ago too as I recall. Insane how much people are cutting now adays.

Would be interesting to see him rematch Florian. Florian kind of credits himself for going 185 as trying the impossible, and now several guys have gone down 2 weight classes (Sanchez who won 185 and Swick who competed at 205)

I think Edgar would beat Diego

Probably the best for him, I always thought he was a little small, so maybe this will work out for him.

I dont know if Edgar would beat him, but I would like to see it.

Well Sanchez was a smaller welter weight especially compared to monsters like Alves.

I think he might be a little to much at this point for Edgar but it would be a great fight.

I would pick Edgar, he hasn't been subbed or beated badly standing and has dominated everyone with wrestling except for Maynard. Seems like he can take people down without putting that much effort into it.

I also think he'd have a chance of beating Sherk and Florian to be honest with you.

Alves is huge - also looks like he's been eating all his vegetables (as Cro Cop would put it)

Edgar and Sanchez are two of my favorite fighters so its hard for me to have a clear mind on this one.

It would be interesting to see how the stand up would go as Edgar has good crisp boxing but not much power, while Diego is more awkward but has steadily improved adding in knees and kicks and he does have power.

I would definitley give the wrestling edge to Frankie but I cant imagine him being able to hold Sanchez down. Diego is so good at scrambling on the bottom, that I could see him sweeping Franking and applying alot of gnp from the top.

Right now I would probably rank Edgar at four in the lw division behind Penn, Sherk and Florian. I think Edgar could beat Sherk but I am not so sure about Florian.

How often does a decent wrester get swept to his back from the guard?
I have rolled around with a few ju-jitsu guys during Judo practice and I just don't see how sweeps could work against someone with decent wrestling.
These guys were far from BJJ experts, but I was never close to being a DI quality wrestler either.

Typically wrestlers have good top control but it can happen.

Franca swept Sherk several times in their fight.

Sanchez swept and took Koschecks fight in their second fight.

Edgar and Griffin reversed each other several times in their fight.

Sanchez will have a pretty big size advantage over Edgar, he has a wrestling background himself and he is a great scrambler who is very good with sweeps. When he fought Parisyan the second he would hit the mat he was looking to escape and improve position.
