UFC likes to dictate terms - I imagine the royalty sharing is non-negotiable (if I remember correctly, with the toys, the UFC got 80% and the fighters could not audit them to verify their 20% share) and this, like the toys, is a lifetime deal. Totally unreasonable to ask young guys to sign their image away and to retaliate against them when they don't comply.
I imagine they are able to use his loss to GSP as their way out of the contract even though he was scheduled for an upcoming fight. It makes the loss of the other organizations that much more hard to swallow.

Many believe that Cain has serious potential and in Koscheck's case, he just did the UFC a big favor in taking Diego's spot against a very dangerous contender (who had just taken out Karo and Hughes)
The UFC doesn't seem to fear bad press all that much. Dana's made so many things public that other companies would not have commented on.
