Thread: Fitch cut for not signing video game deal.

If it happens I think the video game will be an excuse more than anything else. Fitch and Koscheck are both in Franklin land at 170 where they have no plausible route to the title but they are so good they keep almost anyone they fight from getting a shot. Additionally they won't fight each other, so they have very few options for fights.

I think if they drop these two it is like dropping Lindland. Setting an example on royalites is just a bonus for the UFC. I think Cain would just be friendly fire (that and they remove the only guy who MAY be able to outwrestle Brock).

Either way IF it happens to all three it's the most underhanded thing the UFC has ever done. Especially after Koscheck stepped in on no notice to save a whole fight card for them and then put on a great show.

This sounds bad, but with such an eloquent explanation from Dana Dickhead White, it sounds much better. This is a lot of "[explative]"s even for him. What an asshole.

    DDW:
"Affliction is still out there trying to build its company. Let [Fitch] go work with them. Let him see what he thinks of those [expletives]. [Expletive] him. These guys aren't partners with us. [Expletive] them. All of them, every last [expletive] one of them."

Another quote from the brilliant Mrs. White. I disagree wholeheartedly with the first line.
"I'm not a douche bag and I do a lot for these guys, a lot more than any of you will ever know. We're in a horrible time in the economy now, and every guy with two nickels to rub together is making a run at us. We've worked too hard, given too much, to let certain guys come in and [expletive] with that."

I don't necessarily agree that neither Fitch nor Koscheck are in the title picture anymore, but I won't get into that because ... This has nothing to do with who may or may not have a plausible route to a title shot. It's all about having power in the relationship and owning the rights.

Wouldn't it be nice if every last [expletive] one of them walked? The only way this is gonna stop is if the fighters band together and all not sign a deal like this. Then see if he cuts all of them.

I think it absolutely is tied together. Look at the situation. When it comes up they first cut Christian Welisch, a no name AKA fighter. Fitch says they did it as a warning for him. Next they drop Fitch as next most expendable. Koscheck could be next, but they don't want to cut him yet because he is headlining the free december card. In all 3 cases they are making this "video game" decision based on what the fighter can do for them in the cage in the coming months. Fitch cannot do much and has no fight they can sell right now. He was hammered by GSP and nobody ever wants to see that fight again. He won't fight Kos. And anyone else they throw him in with he likely wins and derails that fighter from a potential shot. He is welterweight Rich Franklin, just not nearly as popular. This is why the UFC wants to drop a consensus top 5 in the world guy. He can't make them any money right now. Believe me if Fitch had a good route back to the title or intriguing fights, he wouldn't get dropped over a video game. This is identical to the Lindland cut and is just the UFC cutting a fighter's legs off when they had no more use for him. If you disagree then tell me what John Fitch fight in the coming year the UFC can make money off?

I think that guys have been in the UFC a lot longer now and there pay goes up on the 2nd and 3rd contracts so it will become more and more common for the UFC to cut guys just like this when they fall out of the title picture. Its like a company firing a 10 year software developer because he makes too much money and they want to replace him with two entry level guys out of college for the same amount. Dirty business practice, total lack of loyalty, and it will continue to go on until the fighters do something about it as a group.

I hear what you're saying. But a fight that makes money and a route to the title are two different things. Although there may not be a particular match that flashes dollar signs, I think Fitch remains a title contender.

PJ - how can they cut Cain? He's undefeated; they normally cut guys by exercising the loss clause.

I remember Dana snickering months ago that Randy and Fedor couldn't promote their fight because he owns all their fights and would never let them use any footage to promote it. So I think any and everyone should be suspicious about signing a lifetime of rights away to the UFC.

Unfortunately, the UFC is more powerful than its fighters. Everyone is disposable to them and they are able to make unreasonable demands like this one (just a f#cking video game).

Plus, they always argued fighters should look to make their money outside the cage. Sure everyone would sign onto deals like this one if it had a normal and balanced contract terms (few years and paid the fighters more evenly - no idea how a video game would work, since unlike the toys, you wouldn't be buying a particular fighter)
"I don?t give a f_ck about money, bro. Believe me when I tell you that." Dana White

Sherdog reporting that Fitch and the UFC are back in negotiations. Hopefully this works out and the AKA guys stay in the UFC and get a reasonable deal. This is still friggin stupid.
Jacob Schlottke---Gone too soon, and the world is a little less bright because of it. RIP, brother.
