Is Vinny better than Nog in jiu-jitsu? You be the judge.
The dust-up between Antonio Nogueira and Vinny Magalhaes during last night's episode of the Ultimate Fighter revolved around Vinny thinking that he was better at jiu-jitsu than Nog. Nogueira became interim heavyweight champion due largely in part to his ground game. Vinny won his fight over Jules Bruchez using textbook jiu-jitsu moves. Who is better?
Here is Magalhaes at a BJJ tournament, facing Dan Simmler. You may remember Simmler as the guy who Matt Riddle KTFO in the elimination fights during last season of the Ultimate Fighter. The camera work is shaky, but you get the idea.
This is a collection of Nog's best groundwork in his MMA career, with some stand-up thrown in for fun.
Tell us who you think is better in the comments. The winner will get a chocolate cake with cookie dough icing.*
*Not really. Nog already got that for his birthday!

Why would they show us nogs ground work in mma? That has more to do with Nog taking large amounts of punishment.
They were talking about who has better bjj and in that case Vinnys credentials definitely exceed nogs.

Vinny beat Robert Drysdale, who is Mir's BJJ coach on TUF this season, in a grappling/BJJ/something like that tournament not too long ago I believe, so that definitely says someting about his level of BJJ

Agree, and exceeds it by a great deal.
In terms of a MMA ground game, few are Minotauro's equal.
Re: Is Vinny better than Nog in jiu-jitsu? You be the judge.
Riddle KTFO'd Simmler in that elimination fight because Simmler had no standup - he was a BJJ guy. So, Simmler getting KO'd by Riddle says nothing about his BJJ skill and doesn't discount Vinny's in any way if it was a close match between Vinny & Simmler (I can't see the video right now).
I also don't think you can characterize what Vinny did to get his submission of Jules as "textbook." Even Mir thought he was possibly setting up a gogoplata from the mount (which is not typical) before he transitioned off to the side with the armbar. And, even if it had been textbook, he didn't need anything more than textbook to defeat Bruchez who had no BJJ skill - so not really fair to characterize Vinny's BJJ ability based on what he used to beat someone like Bruchez.
Don't get me wrong, Vinny may have displayed a low amount of class by running off at the mouth with the guys at the house and then trying to worm his way out of it when confronted about it by Nog, but he clearly is at an extremely high level with his BJJ and could very well be better than Nog in a pure BJJ sense.

FYI, "they" is me.
It's more just to make fun of Vinny's ego.

Ah yes well Vinny does come off as an arrogant dbag so in that sense I can agree with you.
Re: Is Vinny better than Nog in jiu-jitsu? You be the judge.
Massive dbag, but could be a very solid prospect.

Does someone have a list of Vinny's BJJ accomplishments?
