Default UFC needs to challenge Silva (Yahoo! Sports)

If Dana White doesn't want a repeat of UFC 90's fiasco, then he needs to get Anderson Silva better competition.

He might be right, but perhaps it should be addressed to the matchmaker? Still, I agree, the UFC needs to challenge Anderson.

Dan Henderson, Travis Luter, Nate Marquart, Rich Franklin (twice), up a weight class against a heavy hitter, I'd say they have challenged him just fine.
    Lets go Brent!

He's already cleared out that weight class. I don't think Cote deserved the shot, but I did think coming into it he could make it interesting since he wasn't too worried about being hit. Anderson was tentative in that fight and Cote couldn't get past his reach. The first 2 rounds were slow but I was hoping it would pick up and go for a few more rounds

Honestly, its Bisping's turn at 185 but he's made it clear he doesn't want it.

The 2 top guys Anderson hasn't fought that Dana could arrange for are Filho and Lindland.

The 2 guys with the best shot at beating him imo have already lost to him - Dan and Marquart. Franklin was afraid of him in their 2nd fight, so he really shouldn't get a 3rd shot.

In a few months we could have some challengers. Demian Maia is facing Quarry so we will find out if he can take a punch. He has good takedowns and his bjj is world class so he could give Anderson problems. Also Thales Leites has a great chin and is also great on the ground. If they each get a few more wins and recognition I think they could be good fights.

Silva's so long that these guys will have a hard time getting enough GNP going before the refs stand them up.

Rogan pointed that out last night - how the refs were constantly on people for action who really were busy. It's annoying. And the crowd booing doesn't help because the UFC wants to make things exciting for the fans.

Well if it was a quality ref like Herb Dean in the main event then there would be time for the fighters to work their ground game.

In some of those fights you could hear their pesky voice nonstop.

People don't lnp or gas in the UFC like they used to, really that shouldn't be said on the ground unless a standup is imminent. Agree Herb Dean is fair about it as was Big John

I think both fighters were initially looking to counter - hence, very little action - and Silva was trying to extend the fight against someone he obviously thought he could easily beat. However, he also didn't seem to understand how to do that and still win the rounds - he was giving away those rounds by not engaging. I don't think he was befuddled by Cote but looking to stop any Cote offense and then turn it on later. Unfortunately, we never got to later.

And, I wholeheartedly agree regarding the refs running their mouths - especially in the Maynard/Clementi fight. That guy was calling for action when they were actually in motion battling for position!
