BTW, past several UFC FOTN bonuses:

    UFN 15 Neer-Diaz (a grappling-fest)

UFC 88 Pellegrino-Tavares (whole lot of ground work)

UFC 87 GSP-Fitch (more groundwork throughout)

UFC 86 Griffin-Rampage (on the feet mostly, but the most exciting moments were on the ground)

UFC 85 Wiman-Tavares (pretty balanced fight, lots of excitign groundwork, but ended with a brutal knockout)

    UFN 14 Franca-Edgar (need I say it?)

    Just a quick rundown.

I already pointed out that Elitexc has ground fighters and showcases them.

    Just a quick rundown.
Yes they were all the best fights of the night and many of them involved a lot of stand up exchanges. Pellegrino knocking down Tavares several times, Rampage knocking down Griffin in a stand up fight, GSP knocking down Fitch a variety of times in a fight in which most of the excitement came on the feet, Wiman knocking Tavares head offer after some great exchanges, and the Franca-Edgar fight had a lot of grappling but Franca made it interesting with some flying knees that clearly hurt Edgar.

Elitexc also has ground fighters and showcases them as well yet they still encourage fighters at time to stand and bang.

It's this selective encouraging that becomes a problem PJ

My point was that just because UFC has ground fighters that are exciting does not mean that they do not encourage fighters to stand and strike.

I think it's obvious the UFC wants mainly standup fights too. Dana himself complains about lnp fighters and perhaps that had something to do with why JT was kicked out of the house for his post TUF incident.

That doesn't make what Elite did right though - Shaw put a good twist on it when busted.

Claudale don't confuse wanting exciting fights with wanting stand up fights, or ground fighting = lay and prayers. Keep in mind in the last year UFC signed Randy Couture, Brock Lesnar and Minotauro Noguiera, not exactly stand up fighters and they paid a ton of money for them. Clearly they want exciting fighters, but that doesn't mean that they have to be stand up fighters.

Really? You're trying to say that since the fights involved stand up, that was the defining parts of the fight? All fights start in the standing position, so that seems a bit disingenuous. Pellegrino-Tavares had some nice exchanges, but the majority of the exciting action came on the ground. There were three defining moments of the Griffin-Rampage fight: 1. Rampage knocks Forrest down in the first; 2. Forrest gets a standing guillotine, goes to the ground, and then works from top position the whole round; and 3. Forrest attempts triangle/Rampage attempts powerbomb. 2 out of 3 grappling/ground related. The VAST majority of the Edgar-Franca fight happened on the ground. The flying knees were about the only meaningful things that happened on the feet. And Wiman-tavares was the most balancced fight on the list, but since it ended with the brutal knockouts and not from the great groundwork that took place from both fighters, we can count that as "stand-up." And i thought most of the interesting stuff in GSP-Fitch happened on the ground, such as GSP getting put on his back, getting swept, pounding on Fitch, but there were some good exchanges on the feet. That's still 4 out of 6 fights that were given FOTN after featuring grappling/ground work prominently. Doesn't seem like the UFC is favoring striking.
