Thread: The Ultimate Fighter 8 Discussion

    1. Knowing that last season they had to fight right away and having a brother who is a UFC veteran, not coming in to the show at fighting weight is inexcusable - and just plain stupid.

    2. I think Krystof Soszynski will be a force to be reckoned with this season.

    3. This was probably to build drama and get viewers thinking he was a weak link and then have him dispel that notion with a very good performance.

    4. Interesting. My son's girlfriend had the opposite take on the bleach blonde look. However, the "He's got a better chance of getting me pregnant," quote went over well. Doesn't top Dorian's quote about dreaming about some fat hookers and a little latino midget, though. And, Aguilar is just not very bright, "dawg." He was trying to get across that he is a great conqueror but used a bad example. I also didn't realize that Hitler was from "BC times," did you?

    5. I completely missed Rashad's brother.

Krystof Soszynski had something like 25+ pro fights, so he does not seem to fit as the typical up and coming cast member.

Jason Guida is listed as 185 lbs at Sherdog.

I think that showing the guy fainting was awesome. Looked like a pansy and then came up big in the fight.

BTW, congrats to Bluestater for getting a regular blog on Yahoo's MMA page.

Wouldn't have Dana already known the outcome before he starting hyping a fighter?
If the speculation that it was Duarte was wrong, who is the "Next Anderson Silva"?

I have two connections to the show - Antwain Britt, who I covered in H.S. when he wrestled at Indian River in Chesapeake and on-again, off-again squatter/roommate Dave Kaplan from ODU.

    I wrote a blog, too ... http://bryantwrestling.wordpress.com...imate-fighter/
    Dave Kaplan.

Like CB did last season, Bader is doing a thing where he appears at a bar and hopefully gets more people to come in, and they give Bader some $ in return. Anyways, I was watching the Guida fight on Fight Night before I left, and then when I got there, it was on the Ed Herman fight, so I clearly was like wtf? So when the Fight Night is over, it goes straight to Star Trek or something gay like that. It turns out the bar had Direct TV and we were watching the 2nd airing of the fight night. So I didn't even get to see the show =(. I knew Bader fought in the 2nd episode anyway, but I still would have liked to see it.
"Now class, I'd like for you to transition from downward dog....straight to FULL BRING!!!"

Spike usually runs the episode again on Saturdays. And don't hate on Star Trek.

My observations, such as they are.

Bluestater mentioned the win by Jules Bruchez, but I was equally impressed with his bizarre boasting rant after he won. We know he won w/o throwing a punch partially b/c he made sure we knew with a loud declaration after the fight. JB White and the coaches exchanged mutters and comments. That said, it was a fairly impressive win and he did a nice job of reversing Magee who came out and quickly took Bruchez down.

Surprise, surprise. JB White made a bad joke about "The Machete". The bad joke doesn't bother me, but the cackling at the guy's expense seemed a bit much. He didn't fight an awful fight and he certainly didn't puss out; he was beaten by a better fighter. His dream is derailed for the time being and JB is very amused by a not-so-extreme nickname.....in the words of Alfred E. Newman, BLECCH

I echo the comments about Lance Evans--a real bummer he didn't make the house. With Guida's and Evans' early results, perhaps it was for the best that they didn't make the house. It's tough to live up to hype not meant for you.

Soszynski has a great deal of upper level experience and was often on TV with the IFL. If you look at his resume, he doesn't have many bad losses and nearly all of them took place at HWT. Bas and Tompkins both have had a lot of good things to say about him and his first fight was about as impressive as a fight that short could be.
    I heart Jazzy B. White.

Browning's line about Aguilar having a better shot at getting him pregnant than beating him was pretty funny.
I don't like Browning, but he is good.

Even though I read this comment before seeing the fight, I was still convinced Duarte was going to win (figured you were saying he didn't dominate).

Can't imagine Dana would say that about him before any of these fights had taken place, maybe he was referring to someone else?
