Default Thiago Silva Injured, UFC Persuade Him To Fight On

    http://mmabay.co.uk/Story%2003832.html

Rumour has it that American Top Team light heavyweight and the man set to co-main event UFC 108 alongside Rashad Evans on January 2nd has suffered an ankle injury during training.

The news comes via Figure Four Weekly who also reveal the UFC are making it worth the Brazilian?s time to remain a part of the already massively injury hit card. It must be noted that this is an unconfirmed report.

This comes hot on the heels of today?s news that former PRIDE star, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 109 fight with Brandon Vera, putting even further pressure on the promotions roster.

Even though Dana said he would never do that (when talking about Mitrione on the last TUF), there have been stories about Dana doing that for years - no surprise there.

This January 2nd card just sucks - cancel the show.

It's probably going to be a PPV disaster. Just we've come to expect the Superbowl and NYE to be exceptional cards (NYE was something Pride started) and this card isn't as good as your average UFN.

Meeting with Leglace is about the only chance there is of me seeing this live.

Oh no, MMAbay (a notoriously bad website) has posted an admittedly unconfirmed report....

I believe Meltzer was the one too who said that when Franklin was sick for his first against Silva, that Dana said "if you want to make the mortgage payments on your house, go out and fight"

This here is the alleged Dave Meltzer report, but it's actually from FFW (Figure Four Weekly), which is reallly Bryan Alvarez, with Meltzer's name being involved to give it credibility. They share a website (www.f4wonline.com), but it's two different guys. This resource is also, coincidentally, unable to be read unless you pay for it. So basically this is an untrustworthy source allegedly citing a more trustworthy source that nobody can see.

Also, upon further investigation, most of these reports say the UFC is offering to pay Thiago Silva more, not "pressuring him". So what's the big deal? If the injury was so severe he couldn't fight, he'd say no. The UFC has let many guys drop out of fights, all very recently, so it's not like they are forcing Silva here, in the event this is true.

This card is taking a beating as it is (I think Sherk is now out). I think making a spectacle of this is now pointless. We have to remember that the organization has much to lose if a fighter fights hurt or if they pull out of the card. I think Dana White is a hypocrite and a ridiculous self promoter. But I think trying to make him a villain here is disingenuous.
