In an article I wrote a mere two days ago, I spoke about a potential heavyweight showdown between Shane Carwin and Frank Mir.
According to MMA Junkie , the bout has become a very real possibility, but now with an added twist.
The UFC is thinking about having Mir and Carwin duke it out at UFC 111 for the interim heavyweight championship.
Not only would this be a tough test for both men, it now has a little added incentive.
In an interview I conducted with Carwin last week, he called the interim title a "glorified trophy."
One would have to think that if Carwin were to defeat a fighter of Mir's caliber, and have the title wrapped around his waist afterwards by UFC president Dana White, he would have to appreciate the accomplishment.
For Mir, this is an opportunity to go up against a fighter who is very similar in size to Brock Lesnar and who utilizes a similar style.
UFC 111 is shaping up to be an outstanding card.
UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre will return to the octagon after an eight-month hiatus to defend his title against Dan Hardy.
The Bleacher Report's very own Brian Oswald posted a story yesterday about a possible return to the octagon for Thiago Alves at UFC 111.
Two title fights and a potential Alves match? I will be making the one hour trek to New Jersey for this one.
