Star It's Official: Dan Henderson Signs with Strikeforce

    *

After months of speculation, Dan ?Hollywood? Henderson has signed a four-fight, 16-month contract with North American based promotion Strikeforce.

Following his spectacular knockout victory over Michael Bisping at UFC 100, Henderson?s contract came up for renewal and a deal could not be reached. With a three-fight win streak, Henderson was looking for a pay raise as well as an immediate title shot.

What kind of numbers Henderson was looking for are unknown and depending on who you ask, they vary greatly. Dana White claimed numerous times that Henderson was looking to become the highest paid fighter in the company while Henderson himself stated that he just wanted a slight pay raise.

The move had been expected for a while since the apparent falling out with White over the last few months.

Dan Henderson provides a very valuable piece to the puzzle for Strikeforce. Without ever fighting for the company, he is automatically their most recognizable face. He comes in as a franchise player, without a doubt, who will raise the promotions stock overnight.

Strikeforce now has the task of how they want to use Henderson. The first question that needs to be answered is what weight class will ?Hendo? fight at? Strikeforce obviously would prefer him to fight at Light-Heavyweight with their lack of names in the division. At this point Mousasi has no upcoming challengers on the horizon.

The Middleweight division is much different. Strikeforce has signed a plethora of talent over the last few months and do not need him there as badly. On top of this, Middleweight Champion Shields is undersized and going against an over-sized middleweight would present a lot of problems.

Either way, Dan Henderson proves to be a huge acquisition for a company that is looking to push themselves to the mainstream. Is Henderson the name that will push Strikeforce over the edge? Only time will tell. *

Good luck to Hendo, not sure who he's going to fight in Strikeforce who's intriguing. Maybe Mousasi, if Hendo fights at 205?

thats what I would want to see, maybe one fight more for Mousasi and a "welcome/easy" fight for Hendo to set it up.

Makes sense to me. I'd be intrigued by that fight.

Regardless of org, mousasi is one of the most intriguing fights for henderson. Marquardt or machida are the only two i would say are on par or more intriguing.

At 185 henderson already fought silva, bisping and belfort. Other than that there are not many meaningful fights except for maybe leben.

At 205 he already fought rampage, franklin, w silva, and nog. No real interest in seeing him fight liddell or ortiz, and a fight with griffin doesnt really do it for me either. I would be interested in seeing him fight machida or shogun though.

Lets forget about Shields as the middleweight champ. He wis nothing more than a paperweight at the moment. Hendo has quite a few fights that lure interest. If he fights Jacare he loses. He has plenty of Welterweights to fight now.

Hendo vs Lawler. Cmon, you know it would be a brawl. If Lawler can get past a very good wrestler in Prangley, he would be a legit threat for Hendo. The stand up war would be classic.

Hendo vs Kazuo Misaki. The rubber match.

Hendo vs "Jacare". This would be a heck of a matchup.

Hendo vs Khlaidov. This would be exciting. Khalidov is dangerous. He would need another noteable win first, but it appears Strikeforce was in negotiation with him already to fight Lawler.

At 205, I think he would be open to take a superfight (non-title) with Mousasi at a catch weight of 195, so that he isn't messing with his weight too much. The truth is that the belts mean little to us fans. Its the matchups.
I pictured you as that guy Gaylord in Showboat, passing up taxis to walk because he's broke and playing it off as if it's the doctor's advice. - Clmetal

    vs. Shields-Don't really care

    vs. Lawler-Slightly more then Shields

    vs. Misaki-Don't care

    vs. Jacar-Don't care...yet.

    vs. Khlaidov-Who?

And I don't say that trying to claim there are many more better options in the UFC. I know in the Sherdog article they talked about him fighting Fedor...which is a TERRIBLE idea.

If jacare beats lindland i would love to see jacare vs. henderson.

I only have mild interest in shields, lawler, misaki.

Khalidov is a bright prospect but still has a lot to do before im actually interested in that fight.

Another fight i would be interested in is Lawal vs. henderson.
