PJ, I don't think Diaz has been pushed that hard. I think Gray would be better off asking for topguys that a who lost 2 of his last 3 who is a bad matchup for him. Gray asked for and beat Edgar - his best win, and his win over Huerta was pretty high profile too. This would prove something about his improved submission defense if he could gnp Diaz for 3 rounds

He has head lined two ultimate fight nights, he was also on the main card of gsp/penn card and overall he has been on 8 main cards. I think diaz has pretty good recognition at this point especially because he finishes fights.

Like Escudero beating Miller, if Gray does this it will say a lot about him since this seems like such an obvious bad matchup sylistically

Can't Gray outstrike Diaz? Diaz boxing is good because of his reach, but he does not seem to have enough power to hurt Gray. On the ground Diaz will not quit and Gray will always be in danger of getting too aggressive and getting caught in a submission. |

I'm not sure, but I thought Gray trained with Couture. If so, I'll bet his submission defense is pretty solid now. I know Diaz is long and suprises people with some submissions, but if Gray does what Couture does on the ground, he'll be fine. Just work for half-guard and pound him from there. Easier said than done, though. Anyone think that maybe the reason Gray isn't moving up in competition might be because people don't want to fight him? I don't know, I'm just not sure why he would take fight that doesn't advance him unless he had to.

![]() ![]() | That might be a bad idea, he's a lot like his brother where he utilizes reach to land lots of shots and hurt people. Of course I'm mainly talking about his brother, but I think Gray needs to take him down and win on the ground.

I think this is now a bad matchup for Diaz. Think about it. Diaz will risk losing 3 out of his last 4 fights here. He will not be able to take down Gray, nor will he be able to pull off any of those cheap judo trips. On their feet, Gray impressed me with his striking improvements. He got the better of Huerta in their excahnges. He showed very good head movement which will be helpful against Nate. I really see Gray bullying him. He will be in control where the fight takes place. I also think there is a good chance Nate gets knocked down getting cocky with his boxing.

I dont know if Diaz will try to stand up with Maynard, while Nick D. may be able to work in the stand up Nate isn there yet, he may want to work on takedowns and look for the sub, that would be his best bet.

The stand up with Huerta was real close, if he did that for a 3rd round, I think he risked losing. I see him losing the standup with Diaz's reach and ability to take a punch.

I think maynard will struggle with diazs reach, and it would be a mistake to keep the fight standing when it has been proven that a strong wrestler can overpower diaz.
