Default Kevin Iole confirms Forrest Griffin to replace Coleman

Kevin Iole is confirming via his twitter that Forrest Griffin will be stepping in on short notice to take on Tito Ortiz. VERY interesting match up, IMO.

How do you see this match up Zapp? Anything in particular compelling about it to you?

Well, it's a decent match up for FOrrest in the sense that Tito doesn't really have the power in his hands to hurt him. But it's also a good match up for Tito in that Forrest's TD defense is marginal.

GOing off their original match, the compelling thing to me is that FOrrest has improved a lot since then; however, Tito is also supposed to be closer to 100% then he's been in YEARS. I think, if all else equal, the match up favors Tito slightly, but I'm worried about the cage rust Tito might be bringing with him. I'm not sure who I'm going to predict as winner as of now.

Thank you. IMO, this is a very good fight for a the fans for a number of reasons. It's not such a good fight for either fighter.

The first time, this was a very competitive fight. Forrest was the new kid and Tito was part of the Old Guard that reigned for some time. Since then, however, Tito has fallen from the upper echelon of the 205 pound division and Forrest has scaled it's tallest heights. They have virtually switched positions, with the exemption of the humbling that Anderson dished out to Griffin. Ortiz returns after back surgery and a long absence. A loss is big for either guy.

This is a very good measuring point for both fighters. A loss for Griffin could signal him being committed to an institution and perhaps never be heard from again. A loss by Ortiz could be the writing on the wall that the times have simply passed up the HB Bad Boy. This will be a war fought to not lose under any circumstances. It will pit two wounded fighters battling for their MMA lives. I predict we will see blood shed and carnage when this one is over. Neither combatant will go out willingly or without a fight. I like Tito's chances but I expect Forrest to open up as a slight favorite.

    Thank you Zuffa

You see Forrest as a betting favorite, but do you favor him in the match up, stylistically?

I see Forrest opening up as a slight favorite and the money could then slide over into Ortiz favor.

I've got Ortiz having the advantage based on the stylistic match up. Of course this is all speculation until we see how Tito handles the back surgery and ring rust as well as if Forrest is a complete basket case, or if he's able to bounce back from the defeat of all defeats.

I think Forrest opens up as a big favorite in the bets and the gap closes around fight time.

Do you all see Forrest throwing those leg kicks like he did to Rampage? Might be a chance for Tito to get the takedown. If Forrest is still working with Couture then I see a good game plan, as long as Forrest sticks to it. I agree that Griffen would have to open as the favorite but, like you all said, the gap will close come fight time.

It would be smart for Forrest to mix leg kicks in off of combinations. Just coming out and kicking Tito without first setting it up will lead to him being on his back.
