Shinya Aoki: "I'm Better And Capable Of Beating UFC Fighters"
http://mmamania.com/2009/10/04/shiny...-lightweights/
?I am not concerned about my opponent. It does not matter who I face ? as long as I let my style shine and fully express myself in the ring, everything will be fine. Yes, I want a belt. Actually, let me rephrase that: I just want to win and do not want to lose. For every fight, it simply boils down to my wanting to win, or rather, my dogged determination to win. The belt will follow my victory, so I am focused solely on winning and do not allow myself to be distracted by belt or all the other frivolous stuff?. I am interested in fighting in a cage since a lot of the major promotions hold their fights in the cage nowadays. I am aware that some people raise the question about my viability in the cage ? it upsets me whenever I hear them say that I will not succeed fighting in the cage under a different set of rules. I think I will not be beaten by anyone. It is often said that UFC is the pre-eminent force in the MMA world with the best fighters and BJ Penn is number one: (Raising his voice) It does not anger me, but it makes me want to challenge the assertion. I acknowledge their major league status, financial power, the caliber of their fighters, but I do not consider them the number one. I think I am the better fighter and capable of beating their fighters? so yeah, regardless of the opponent, I cannot afford to lose.?

I guess this is a spoiler? I haven't seen Dream yet.
Aoki is not well rounded enough to be UFC champ (although he'd beat many of those guys). Plus I don't think he could wear those pants.

Claudale this is not a spoiler I read it before the fight took place.
Aoki may not be well rounded but he is exceptional in one area and that enables him to beat guys who are more well rounded. I think he would be top three in the ufc but I do not think he could beat penn.

Beating Hansen more than once shows that he is capable of running with the big dogs. He's a bit like Shaolin, although probably a little more sudden than Ribeiro. I agree that he would struggle with a guy like Penn.
I heart Jazzy B. White.

Hansen is a small lightweight. He may really be a 145 pounder, like Shaolin really is was well. I do not think Aoki would do well in the cage against guys like Tyson Griffin, Sean Sherk, Sanchez, as those guys would rough house and keep the fight where they want. Aoki is not good at getting hit and taking it. I would be interested in seeing Aoki fight Nate Diaz before he could talk about being in the top 3 in the UFC.

Hmm, maybe, but what would Sherk do? Sherk's got a tiny reac, so he'd have to get close, which opens up pulling guard. Aoki is better in an MMA context on the ground then anybody Sherk has gone to ground with....

I'd like to see Sherk on the ground with him. Sherk is pretty damn good on the ground himself. I like Aoki's chances against most, but I don't see him being the top guy at 155 in the UFC. I see him taking some lumps actually.

Lets go Brent!
