Star According to Spiars: UFC Welterweight Rankings

As many spectators began to proclaim months ago after Georges St-Pierre's one-sided victory over Thiago Alves, the welterweight division is in limbo.

Martin Kampmann, one of the front runners for a title shot, nearly fell off the map with his recent loss to Paul Daley, which incidentally places Daley as noteworthy.

The heart of Carlos Condit pulled him past a dangerous situation against Jake Ellenberger, but that fight left more questions than answers in Condit's quest for the belt.

Josh Koscheck was in desperate need of a victory after losing to Paulo Thiago. He dazzled his way back into the top 10 with his heavy-handed knockout over veteran Frank Trigg.

It seemed that Brock Larson was under-appreciated as a fighter inside the UFC, as he was stuck fighting on the undercards against lesser-known opponents. That was up until Mike Pierce came in and beat Larson at his own game, sending him out of the top 10 in search of answers.

    10. Martin Kampmann (15-3)

    9. Paulo Thiago (11-1)

    8. Josh Koscheck (13-4)

    7. Carlos Condit (23-5)

    6. Dan Hardy (22-6)

    5. Matt Hughes (43-7)

    4. Thiago Alves (16-6)

    3. Mike Swick (14-2)

    2. Jon Fitch (19-3)

    1. Georges St-Pierre (19-2)

    Noteworthy: Paul Daley (22-8-2)

The next event that will affect the rankings will be in Manchester, England at UFC 105. Among many British fighters fighting in front of their homeland, Dan Hardy is set to try to make his UFC record 4-0 against undefeated Dong Hyun Kim.

A win for Hardy could leave him one victory away from a title shot, while a win for Kim will gain him much-deserved recognition inside the octagon.

No way Koscheck is lower than 5.

I think the 3 AKA partners (Swick, Fitch, & Kos) need to duke it out for the next shot at GSP.

Btw, not a fan of Condit here. He showed lots of heart against Ellenberger. However, if the UFC was giving 10-8 round, Ellenberger wins that fight. And he came on short notice.

Fitch and Swick have no shot of beating GSP imo.

Kos has a chance because of his wrestling (and he won a round) - but he needs to train wrestling with our national team or he'll be on his back again against GSP.

Ellenberger looked great, can't wait to see him again.

NO way hardy and conditt should be that high. Conditt is a pretty good fighter but nothing special he would lose to all the top guys mainly because he does not have the physical strength to keep pace.

I think Condit should be that high. I could see him beating Swick and Fitch to be honest. He's hard to stop and seems to slip out of positions.

Hardy is stupid as I can't think of any big wins over guys with good takedowns.

Although I would like to see him fight GSP.

I think Fitch beats him pretty handily, i think he is much much solid than conditt. Conditt has struggled at times against average comp, and has lost when going against bigger named comp.

Fitch outwrestles him and i cant see condit submitting him. Conditt has some good strikes but is also wild and leaves himself open for takedowns.

I could see that one going either way. I think he'd beat Hardy, Hughes and Swick. I think he'd have a chance of beating Koscheck as well.

I disagree with Koscheck needing to go train with our national team, Claudale. He knows how to wrestle just fine. What he needs to do is begin incorporating his takedowns with his striking. And against a take down artist like GSP, he needs to limit the kicks, as GSP looks for that in order to set up his own shots. Kos needs to be of the mind set, wrestle first, fight second, if he is going to beat GSP.
