So a chance at an Olympic medal was not motivation enough?

My point exactly, I would guess he is way north of 230, so why not go Heavy? He has proven that he is not good at weight management. Focus on something that he can be good at.

Not sure what time weigh ins are relative to matches, but with the UFC, you weigh in like 30 hours before a match and I think MMA guys cut more weight than wrestlers.
Olympics weigh-ins were the day before. I believe that there are MMA guys who are doing more weght-cutting than most wrestlers. With the weigh-in the day before, I believe it is only a matter of time before we see some deaths due to weight cutting, similar to what we had in wrestling about 10 years ago.

thanks - I figured it was only hours before.

He's beaten Mocco, so I imagine he can wrestle at least at the level as the big Hwts in MMA

Yea i heard cormier was between 245-250. He seems to have enough body fat to make it to 205 but i dont know if we will consistently see him at that weight.

Damn, closer to the Hwt max than LWT - but I guess he can make it with the big guys. This might be Hahn's chance to be on the national team for a few years.

Hahn will have a chance, but I believe Varner will have the spot locked up for a while now.

I have no idea. He got 2nd in the last olympic tryouts, right? Maybe this will inspire him to go for another run. The Cormier situation in the last olympics really was disappointing, mitigated by Cejudo's awesome run.

VAis - I don't see Varner beating Hahn, have they wrestled before? Are you trying to earn points with Adolf?

If Varner was 184 this year, he would have gotten 3rd.

Cormier would be a small, (fat) heavyweight. He would be hard pressed to compete with the giants who are legitimately near the 265 pound weight limit, (Lesnar, Carwin, etc.). At 205, he would be a threat to anyone, especially if he really focused on his cross training. I guess time will tell. I'm hoping to not see a repeat of a Ghaffari-esque physique in the heavyweight division by a decorated American wrestler.

Are you crazy Claudale? Herbert is Varner's personal whipping boy. Varner used to smash him every time they'd see each other. If Varner were just a bit smaller, he'd be wrecking the domestic field at 84 kilos, (not 184 pounds). Hanh would be hard pressed to score a point on Varner. Come now Claudale, you're trying to bait me into a reaction over your comment and it isn't going to work!

Did Varner have an undefeated season last year? Did he even win the Big 12 (or in wrestling, the Big 5)?

He also lost to Pucillo, so he would have been in the bottom bracket and probably wouldn't have met this year's undefeated MOW.
