I wouldn't say that. Galvao did pretty good. He just hasn't adjusted to wearing gloves in mma. He had High choked out at least 3x, but high was able to pick his gloves off. Galvao is certainly not Marcelo Garcia when it comes to chokes. But the guy is definately dangerous on the ground. His standup is ok, but he needs more experience blocking punches.

As for him fighting Shields. Shields has proven to be strictly a grappler, and an effective one at that. I believe Galvao would outclass him there like Garcia did in ADCC. Though, Galvao would not have the same luck against Nick Diaz. Its just about strengths in matchups.

In a grappling match galvao wins but he has not proven that he can translate his skills to mma. I think shields may have the best combo of wrestling and bjj in mma. His top game is amazing, and he didnt lose his identity like a lot of other wrestlers and grapplers. He didnt try to become a striker and he didnt try to be a bjj player fighting off his back. He uses his strong wrestling skills to get it to the ground and once there he smothers you.

I think he could take galvao down and once he adds in punches from the top it makes galvao that much less dangerous.

It would certainly be a chess match...

I am really a Shields fan. I just acknowledge the bad matchups for each fighter. Then again, I thought Alvez was a bad matchup for GSP... lol

Yea a better bjj guy could realistically give shields trouble. I think gsp would still dictate where the fight took place as his wrestling is so supreme and Alves could give him problems with his take down defense. I would also be interested in seeing a shield vs. fitch/koscheck fight. I know shields dominated fitch in a grappling match several years back but fitch has improved dramatically since then.
