Star Randy Couture Calls "Dibs" on Fedor Emelianenko

I remember calling "dibs" a lot when I was younger. Dibs on the passenger seat in the car, dibs on the last popsicle in the box, dibs, dibs, dibs.

Dibs is a childish way to stake claim and plant your flag on something, and Randy Couture is calling dibs on Fedor Emelianenko's first fight in the octagon, should he ever sign with the UFC.

In a post UFC 100 interview with Steve Colefield on ESPN Radio, Couture stated that not only does he want the first shot at Fedor, but he believes it's part of the agreement with the UFC that brought him back into the organization.

While Fedor has yet to even express interest signing with the UFC, it would be telling to see what the UFC company line would be in regards to Fedor's first fight.

Obviously the big money rests with fight against the new heavyweight poster boy Brock Lesnar. Would the UFC spurn Couture, one of their most popular fighters and go back on their word to him?

    Maybe. Probably.

Fedor's value is largely in the mystique surrounding him as well as his long running undefeated streak. While I don't think the 46-year-old Couture poses many problems for Fedor at this point in his career as he once did a Fedor loss greatly diminishes his PPV drawing power for a fight against Lesnar.

As we've seen many times before the elements of a fighter's first time in the octagon can get the better of them. Fighting in a cage poses it's own set of problems and every fighter has a punchers chance at causing an upset.

The funny thing is that Couture could have already fought Fedor theoretically if he had lost his belt to Lesnar and completed the last fight on his contract.

There would likely be a lot less resistance from the UFC now that Couture doesn't have the belt and is a few wins removed from a title shot.

I feel for Randy because a few years ago everyone was clamoring to see him fight Fedor. Now unfortunately that fight doesn't really interest anyone but the most hardcore Couture fans.

he's probably right, that Dana promised to do everything he could to get him a fight with Fedor.

I also don't see the problem here, the UFC will only take Fedor if he signs a multi-fight contract, and instead of starting him with a title fight, you put him against a former champ first. of course the UFC can dump Couture if they want to because he has a loss in this contract

Actually, having Randy fight him first would be a big benefit to Lesnar. Randy has to take him down right away, 3 rounds of GNP is the only way he can win.

A 3 round fight gives randy a much better chance. He could clinch fedor get on top and play it very safe to avoid submissions.

LnP would be his best option. but lets hope that Randy gets on some hgh or something, because physically he didnt look very good in the Lesnar fight.

I love Randy, and never want to count him out, but Fedor annihilates him.

Not a good fight for Randy. Of course the UFC is no where near signing Fedor, so Randy is no where near being in this fight. I'd rather see Randy take out Machida

True by the time the ufc signs fedor, randy will be 49 years old.

I have gone off in the past about how fedor would destroy randy but claudale got upset that i was being too opinionated. In the end we settled on Randy having a 15 percent chance of winning.
