I know that silva would be the favorite over gsp and i am fine with that considering the size advantage. However as long as i have visions of lutter essentially crawling at silva and taking him down and then eventually gaining full mount i will favor gsp.

He his takedowns are so explosive and his timing impeccable that he would be able to take silva down. He wouldnt do much damage but he has such a strong top game that he would be able to wear on silva. He has incredible cardio as well so i dont see him tiring as the fight wears on.

A lot of GSP's incredible timing is against smaller dudes. He's got good wrestling, better then Anderson's for sure, but Anderson is a huge MW. Also, in the Lutter fight, Anderson was coming back from surgery on both knees. All mitigating factors, not definitive of course. Also remember, Anderson was able to stop Hendo from taking him down from a full body lock in the second, although he was taken down and controlled in the first. Just my opinion, of course, but 5 rounds is too long to expect GSP to survive against the Spider.

After GSP loses, you guys will quickly drop GSP back down to earth. I can tell you that Alvez fended off both of the best takedown wrestlers with ease. These are the 2 guys (Hughes & Koscheck) that put GSP's wrestling in such high esteem. I believe Alvez can get right up if he did get put down.

I have heard from many trained stand up fighters, including a good friend of mine who is a black belt in Kyokushin, tell me how unimpressive GSP's mechanics are. Alvez is a pretty decent muay tai striker himself. I believe he will be more effective in the clinch. I think his suspect chin gets tested. Alvez beats him and I will gladly sig bet it.

On the subject of Anderson Silva vs GSP, I believe Silva creams him. I think Marquart creams him. I am not convinced GSP beats Kampman at 170 let alone compete at 185. Matt Serra exposed his weakness if you get him to slug it out. Alvez has the best td defense now. He has the power and knees to pose a danger to GSP

I dont think serra exposed anything other then if you get hit in the back of the head you will be rocked.

GSPs takedowns are the best in mma not just because his takedowns are better but because he mixes his wrestling with kickes in punches far better than anyone else. You never know when he will shoot and when he does shoot he level changes so quickly and explodes.

Dont forget Alves was getting outstruck by Parisyan in teh first round and even koscheck was able to land strikes on him. GSP will run through him, i think we should sig bet.

I would feel very bad for martin kampman if he ever had to face gsp. that would be an ugly ugly fight for him.

Word is that gsp is able to take down everyone in his camp include evans.

Alves is probably the MOST likely to beat him, because he hits so hard, but other then catching him with one of those shots, Alves doesn't really pose a threat in other places (wrestling, submissions, etc).
I couldn't agree more with Zapp Brannigan. I was actually going to place a large wager on Alves, but now it appears the kiss of death has been given to Alves, and we'll likely see him stumble down the UFC ramp, wrapped like a mummy, with a thermometer in his mouth. GSP takes this one :-(

    PJ,

I will take the sig bet. I am in agreement in what you say about GSP's skills. However, I truly feel that this game is so much more about matchups. Its not about who beat the man who beat the man. I realize you have not claimed such, but I thought I make the point.

I was wrong about Fitch being the bad matchup for GSP. However, I didn't realize how overpowered Fitch was. Athleticism played a part as well. I think Alvez has improved immensly every fight, due to age and experience. I do think he now has the bjj, striking, takedown defense to limit the fight into a chess match. I truly do not feel GSP is as unbeatable as people make him out to be. He is capable of mental collapse. He faces a fighter I feel is hungry enough, skilled and strong enough to beat GSP.

I am 40/60 on Kampman at the moment. I will say that I think Kampman can possibly grind out a win. However, I could see GSP taking him down quite a bit. Whether Kampman is capable of tying him up a lot on the ground and beating him on his feet is no yet known.

My friend Adolph, the only kiss of death is the ATT crew's record in big matches in the UFC. They have not won the big matches.

If his leg is wrapped up, I'll retire prognosticating...
