WCF 7 Leaves Fans Wanting More
The seventh rendition of World Championship Fighting held in Wilmington, MA on Jun. 27 left fans wanting more and more.
WCF President Joe Cavallaro seems to find ways to continually top himself event after event, with New England's top fighters entertaining a crowd of well over 3,000 fans, according to Sherdog.com.
The event, which typically has fans meeting and greeting with UFC stars, such as Joe Lauzon, Kenny Florian, and Marcus Davis, had a bigger twist this time as fans were treated to the presence of celebrity Kevin James.
According to Sherdog, James was on hand to watch the festivities while taking a break from filming locally for a new movie.
The fights all featured local fighters, however, they performed like they were auditioning for a shot at the UFC.
The night's co-main event saw Calvin Kattar, a local favorite with many fans in attendance, submit a very game, but outclassed Rodrigo Almeida within the first two minutes of the first round.
Another featured bout had Greg Rebello out of Team Sityodtong defeat New Yorker Jerry Spiegel by judge's decision.
Rebello, a student of renowned trainer Mark Dellagrotte, fought hard and smart in order to secure an easy two round victory over a very tough opponent in Spiegel.
The fans also got to see a very weird, yet entertaining bout between Travis Bartlett and Guillermo Echuaca. Bartlett received a very unfortunate poke to the eye in the first few minutes of the opening round.
Given the standard five minute recovery period, Bartlett used most of that time to apparently recover from the poke, and came back to TKO Echuaca in very entertaining fashion.
