I dont know, didnt Randy try that and he ended up having to come back because he was gonna lose that argument? Dana may want to continue his dickiness and sue for that last fight, just to mess with the kid, as the returning scarlet knight has pointed out, DW did make the boy.

Randy tried to "resign" and then sign with another promotion despite having several years left on his contract.

You are not obligated to fight you just will not be paid.

yeah but he also tried to wait out his contract which had a year left I believe. and I believe it was going to work against him.

That was the legal battle, interpreting what contracts mean. Randy thought he could retire, let 6 months pass and then fight again. Remember how Dana would refer to what Randy did using a different term than what Randy would say.

The UFC delayed Arlovski's final fights as long as they could to keep him from going elsewhere. I imagine they could keep Huerta from fighting elsewhere if they wanted to unless he fights for them again.

There was a dispute over when the contract ended. The ufc automatically renews your contract if you are a champion. Couture was trying to go by when the original contract ended not the renewed contract.

Coutures case was much different than huertas or any non champion. Huerta is not fighting with the ufc again, the contract will run out.

UFC can keep Huerta from fighting with another org as long as he is under contract. Once that contract runs out he is free to fight elsewhere.

The DW is stupid if he lets it run out, if that happens any non champ can wait out a contract if they can get a money offer somewhere else thats better than the ufc one. If strikeforce takes off then we could see that happening.

I think you are wrong - Randy signed a new contract when he fought Tim (part of the war of words, that being a signing bonus) and he had fights remaining on that contract. He believed he could retire and let time pass and then could fight again elsewhere, while the UFC said they owe them those fights - but like you said, if he won those fights, he'd still be champ and that contract would have renewed. when he did return to the UFC, he commented that this legal fight would have just eaten away all his remaining fight years.

I think the UFC can make Huerta fight for them again if they want to. And like Tito, they can pick someone to give him a loss as he leaves.

Well most guys want to stay in the ufc even if their contract is a bit less than what they could make elsewhere. Much more stability in the ufc as you never know if the org you are fighting for will fold. Also the sponsorship money and exposure is much better with the ufc.

It all depends on how much time is left on the contract. If you sign a two year four fight contract you will probably have at least six months remaining on your contract after the third fight. Unless you are on bad terms with the ufc it would best take the fight and collect the pay check. Once you complete the contracted number of fights your contract is over and you are free to negotiate with other orgs.
