Star MMA: Mauricio Shogun Agrees to Face Lyoto Machida

As reported by mmaweekly.com and mmajunkie.com, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua has verbally agreed to face newly-crowned light heavyweight champion Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida.

Shogun is coming off a very impressive win over Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell. The win was impressive in the fact that the agile Shogun took Liddell down twice, which very few people have been able to do, and finally finished him off with strikes.

Machida just captured the title by knocking Rashad Evans into la la land. Evans never looked like he stood a chance.

The first title challenger was all but set to be Quinton "Rampage" Jackson but Jackson stated that he wanted to finish the feud with Evans and hone his skills to get back to the old Rampage.

The Machida versus Shogun bout is rumored to be in the fall and will probably take place around UFC 103-04.

This fight has the potential to be an epic battle. We could be looking at fight of the year. I like Shogun's chances a lot.

Me too, I just hope the real Shogun shows up and not the one who fought Forrest and Coleman

The second best fight the UFC could have made, but if Rampage is gonna be busy, it makes the most sense. Looking forward to it!

Should be an interesting fight, shogun has a dynamic fighting style so it will be fun to see how he attacks machida.

Of course I have machida in this one.

In my opinion the striking style of muay thai isn't effective for Machida.

This is exciting assuming Shogun is back. Potential to be amazing.

Rampage would rather hold off on the title shot to fight Evans first? I guess that's more of the sure win (maybe Bisping's idea) but maybe a sign that he feels he'll have a hard time figuring out Machita
