UFC 126 Video: Anderson Silva Learned Front Kick from Actor Steven Seagal
Action film star Steven Seagal talked with Fanhouse’s Ariel Helwani after the UFC 126 event that saw his training partner, Anderson Silva, knock Vitor Belfort out with a devastating front kick to the face.
After the fight, Silva explained that he actually learned the kick from the 58-year old martial artist.
"Steven Seagal helped me perfect that kick. That was a kick we were working on before I stepped in," Silva said in a post-fight press conference through a translator.
The kick, which has never been performed in a combat sport according to Seagal, was actually a modified version of one he learned decades ago in Japan.
Seagal trains at the Black House gym with Silva and a team that includes a host of other top UFC and Strikeforce talent, including UFC Featherweight champion Jose Aldo, Rafael Cavalcante, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, Lyoto Machida, the Nogueira brothers, and a seemingly endless list of great talent.
This was not the first time that Seagal had accompanied Silva to the cage as he was also cage-side for Silva’s previous victory over Chael Sonnen at UFC 117.
Seagal is perhaps best known for his role in the movies, “Out for Justice” and “Above the Law,” but he is also a very distinguished martial artist, holding a seventh-dan black belt and Shihan in the martial art aikido.

Though Seagal himself has never stepped into a mixed martial arts cage, there are apparently aspects of his skills that can be used in an MMA fight.
Segal also conceded to Helwani that he may have been involved in mixed martial arts himself if it was around when he was younger.
Then again, perhaps Seagal will get the itch himself after helping corner Anderson Silva to two wins in his two attempts.
Herschel Walker vs. Steven Seagal? Yes, please.
