Brendan Schaub Merry Go Round: Now Slated to Fight 'Cro Cop' at UFC 128
Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight competitor Brendan Schaub is a popular fighter as of late.
Last week, it looked like he was going to fight Frank Mir in March. On Monday December 27, Sportsnet.ca reported that the Mir bout was off and that Schaub would fight Stefan Struve in March. Sherdog reported that the fighters had verbally agreed to the bout.
Now, on Tuesday December 28, Fighters Only has linked Schaub to another March bout, this one with Mirko ‘CroCop’ Filipovic.
The UK website is reporting that Schaub and "Cro Cop" have verbally agreed to fight on March 19, 2011 at UFC 128. That fight card will be held in Newark, New Jersey at the Prudential Center.
In July, after his knockout victory over Chris Tuchscherer, Schaub said, "I think I'd definitely be ready for a "Cro Cop" a Gilbert Yvel. I won't call anyone out, but if Joe Silva (UFC matchmaker) calls me, I'm ready for whatever he wants to throw my way."
Schaub is on a three-fight winning streak since his last loss, a first round knockout at the hands of Roy Nelson during The Ultimate Fighter Season 10 Finale.
"Cro Cop" is coming off a third round knockout loss to Frank Mir at UFC 119 in September of this year. The bout was widely seen as one of the most lackluster main event fights in recent history until Mir struck "Cro Cop" with a knee at 4:02 of the third round for the knockout.
The main event bout at UFC 128 will be a light heavyweight title fight between the champion Mauricio Rua and Rashad Evans.
