UFC 125: Jose Aldo To Make Octagon Debut Against Josh Grispi
http://www.thewrestlingtalk.com/images/pixel.gifMixedMartialArts.com is reporting that UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo will make his Octagon debut against Josh Grispi on January 1st to co-main event UFC 125 in Las Vegas, NV.
The UFC has yet to confirm, but Grispi has been pulled from his November 11th fight with Erik Koch that was set for WEC 52.
According to the post, it was expected that Mark Hominick might get the call to face Aldo, but the 28-year-old is reportedly injured which results in the Grispi/Koch fight being called off.
Aldo/Grispi will co-main event a card featuring UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard.
The 22-year-old Grispi is 14-1 in his MMA career, having won his four WEC contests, and hasn't been out of the first round since March 2007.
The 24-year-old Aldo defeated Mike Brown in November 2009 for the then-WEC Featherweight Championship and has successfully defended the belt twice. At 18-1, Aldo hasn't been beaten since November 2005 and is regarded as one of the best fighters in the world.
The parent company for the UFC and WEC - Zuffa - announced Thursday that they are merging the WEC into the UFC starting on January 1st.
