Sadly though the kid had some potential he seemed to lose interest when he became fully aware we did not punch and kick and didn't return after a few weeks of practices.

As for MMA and the UFC- I love the sport! My only concern is going through another version of having to again make people understand that MMA is not what youth and high school wrestling is about.

For people not familiar with the sport they often times honestly don't know there is a difference!
That is too funny. I have just never experienced that kind of confusion before, and honestly don't know anyone personally that has gone through that (as far as wrestling is concerned). Must be hard to deal with if it is happening semi-regularly.
As for MMA's image, clearly the advertisers showcase the blood and knockouts, seeing that most of the public is entertained by that aspect. So to say that MMA looks bad in the public eye, or promotes bloodlust is true. But, would most of you not agree that the general public seems to be interested in the negative qualities?
However, when passer-bys stop and watch the fights, the technical dimensions of the fight stand out, and then it becomes sport.
Most people that bash MMA simply do not watch it, it would seem.

The "lust for blood" is a big draw for fans of MMA and boxing both I think.

I prefer MMA to boxing because of the combination of skills required to win a fight in MMA.

I used to be a huge fan of boxing but Don King ruined the sport of boxing.

Women boxing has become more popular recently. I wonder how long until we begin to see women fighting in the MMA?!

Boxing sure has lost a bit of its luster. Women in MMA is pretty popular already. Clearly not as popular as the men, but they still get down. Bodog has a great women's circuit, and the lower level organizations have good female turnouts.

I love the UFC, alot of action and great skill; however it should not be done at the youth level. I saw it on Hannity and combs and I was upset to see kids 11 or 12 doing it.
