I have to agree with Spider... Much better then is she had no self defense skills.

Yelling and running is possible are always the best if possible but sometimes those options are not available.

Wrestling or self defense skills might make the difference about being able to get away. Keep in mind she wouldn't have to be able to win a fight against the attacker if resisting the attack bought her enough time to get free or get attention of other people to come help.

My wife and daughters (and I, for that matter) all carry pepper spray. While that gives them a tool, the spray in and of itself is not sufficient. The critical point is having the will to inflict pain on your opponent - enough to gain space and time. If nothing else, wrestling - or karate, judo, etc. - develops the mind set that the woman is going to do something to withstand the attack. Victims who refuse to be victims are much more likely to come out of an attack unharmed.

    Very well said!

Anyone is a potential victim (men, women & children) but those who have confidence and some self defense skills are much more likely to fair better against a attacker IMHO.

Where the hell do you live to have to carry pepper spray on you? wife and kids, but it must be rough as hell if you're using it.

Didn't use to carry it, but last October a woman was attacked by two pit bulls in my driveway. My pepper spray for work was in the trunk of my car. I was left with the choice of dealing with the dogs bare-handed, or with a pistol. I could not get a clear shot with the pistol - every angle either endangered the lady or the people/homes in the background. (All of my neighbors came out to watch - none bothered to do anything, even to the extent of calling the police.) Apparently my yelling and kicking was enough - they gave up the attack and ran down the street. They were later shot and killed when they attempted to attack a police officer. Since we frequently walk our dogs, and many in our neighborhood are a$$holes who believe that having a mean dog makes up for having a tiny penis, I got pepper spray for everyone.

Saying that... it would be funny as hell if some tough guy or guy's tried to start a fight on you and you just pepper sprayed them straight off the bat. Its a bit like a kick in the balls.

Of course girls should have the chance. If I could have known about wrestling earlier in my life i would have joined myself...now i just get to help my school and my brother..

I believe that anybody can wrestle if they are willing to take the time to learn. In my school girls are allowed to join the team. Usually girls only come as managers but 2 seasons ago, we had a girl on our jv team who was the first girl in our county history to win a match against a male wrestler with a pinfall. She used everything our coach taught her. So it just proves my point.
