Well mine isn't in HS yet, but at the recent Middle School State she became just one of the "wrestlers", to a different geographical area of wrestlers, that hadn't seen much of her (or the other two studs placers in Arizona). The boys didn't have any issue with getting beat by her - they knew of her. And the two that beat her hardly let up (one got revenge)..... one even hurt her a bit..... and then they hung out for the rest of the tournament. As far as the rest of the kids went... she was just another tough wrestler who placed in a really big tournament.

Now whether some of the parents had issues.... I guess there were a few. For the first time - since we did the whole Middle School thing this year - I heard of some rumblings of discontent. But most just seemed to enjoy watching Reni (as well as Caroline and Amanda) compete.

As far as what happens in HS..... I know in Arizona there is one really tough girl who has placed, and the boys just wrestle her - there is no shame losing to a girl that good..... she has been a state placer afterall.

The who innapropriate touching thing cracks me up. I mean think about it...... wouldn't a guy grabbing another guys crotch, or doing an oil check.... be even more societly innapropriate?

Oh, as to the people who "really" have issues with boys and girls wrestling.... I just tell them they should be out in front in supporting girls wrestling as an official HS sport. Oddly, they don't seem interested and because they are not interested in that kind of support I tend to not really be all that interested in their concerns. If in a HS State tournament, or big tournament down the road, when his/her kid matches up with mine; we'll take that forfeit.

i dont hav a problem with women wrestling.but i also think that if they are going to, they should wrestle in an all womens legue. when a guy wrestles a girl it is a lose lose situation. if he beats the girl everyone say he is a loser because he didnt take it easy on her. if he loses it is really bad because he will get made fun of. at my school guys arnt allowed to go out for some of the "girls" sports, but the school will allow girls to go out fo so called "guys" sports. i think that it should be just as far for guys as for girls. that is my opinion DH.

Oh, the poor baby in the lose-lose situation. I would have expected this thread ten years ago, but not today. Seriously, guys, get over it. Women wrestle. They have won Olympic medals doing it. It's growing to a point where the girls won't need to wrestle the guys, but in the meantime, they are going to wrestle you. You might beat them, you might not. If your manly pride can't handle it, don't wrestle in the first place. GET OVER IT.

This was the exact same thing I heard as a youngster about girls being allowed to play baseball.

For my sons I will tell them to wrestle and try to win. Whether they are wrestling another boy or a girl makes no difference. May the best wrestler win!

Absolutely. And I've never found a wrestler who would chide someone for "not taking it easy" on an opponent, guy or girl.

Well girls didn't wrestle when I was growing up in Russia, so as a really young kid I didn't have to face these issues. I think 10 year old boys can wrestle 10 year old girls just fine.

Now, when I was in high school in America, I am sorry to say there is no freaking way any girl around 140 pounds who was in high school could even score a point on me. There was no reason whatsoever for me to wrestle a girl in high school rather than to embarrass her which I was not interested in.

So, for me personally it would be a painful experience to have to wrestle a girl in high school which thankfully I never did. I did practice with Vikkie Zummo once though when I was asked to wrestle her a little and she was a World bronze medalist. She was no different than a good male 112 pounder I guess. I think at really low weights like 105 or 112 girls have a chance against boys but when you go 125 and up its a different story.

Completely agree, Fan! But my parents actually let me decide whether or not I wanted to do it. I did in 7th grade- freestyle (was even ranked haha and asked to join the PA Team). Just as women's wrestling was becoming "popular." Everyone told me in 2016 Women's Wrestling was going to be added to the Olympics - I figured, hell, I'd be 33 by then, I'm not waiting that long... and sure enough, I stop wrestling and it gets added! Aw, what could've been....... Hahaha
