Delgado's win highlights women's ranking matches

NORMAN, Okla. – Brittany Delgado upended three-time all-American Lacey Novinska in Oklahoma City University’s women’s wrestling ranking matches on Tuesday at Norman North High School.
Delgado, a freshman from Simpsonville, S.C., beat Novinska 5-0, 2-0 in a matchup of 72-kilogram and 95-kilogram wrestlers. The Blue team won over the Black 30-12.
“We moved the women around to see if they could wrestle up a weight class,” OCU coach Archie Randall said. “We want to come down to our final 10 starters.
“Delgado proves what a real women’s heavyweight is. She is physical, athletic and dominating.”
Lene Wood edged Joey Miller 3-0, 0-1, 1-0 as both the first and third periods went to the overtime clinch.
“Lene Wood did some things that we worked on today,” Randall said. “She shut down Joey’s offense and demonstrated our efforts in practice. She neutralized her and got to the clinch and won.”
Michaela Hutchison and Tessa Plana earned falls for the Blue team. Plana defeated Sara Hilliard in 1:44, while Hutchison beat Sheila McCabe in 46 seconds.
Na’Tasha Umemoto also picked up a bonus-point win 7-0, 7-0 in a technical fall over Emma Mercer.
The Stars take on Menlo (Calif.), Pacific (Ore.) and Simon Fraser (British Columbia) on Friday in Atherton, Calif.
