Default Help me to understand this concept of funk.

For the past few years I've read a lot about this term funk but don't really understand what it is. Is funk what we used to call scrambling? Is a guy who executes some unpredictable unorthodox move in any situation using funk?

I've watched as funk seems to have risen out of nowhere into some new style. Aside from Askren, whom I see as a very solid and fundamental wrestler who scrambles much better than others, who else is a funk master and why? Rico Chip was a slippery, dangerous wrestler who could take you to your back from any postiion; was he using funk? Kendal Cross? Metcalf? Just what is this mysterious and magical thing called funk anyway?

    Thumb slappin' bass.

Seriously, I think funk is just the ability of a wrestler to put himself in a position that would be dangerous to anyone else and score from there.

I've only seen 1 video of Rick Sanders, but I've talked to a couple of guys that wrestled when he did and, supposedly, he is the "Father of Funk" (but I'm the Godfather of Soul). Rico, Cross, Brinzer, Perry - all good examples.

Tony Jameson from Autintown Fitch has funk. I watched some super 32 videos from last year and you will see "Funk".
