Last year in a tournament I pinned a kid in the championship with a head-and-arm and he got pissed off and his whole team got all fruffled and said that that was cheap and I used a cheap move.

Is There really such a thing as a cheap move, or is it just hard feelings?
What do you think?

If you aren't doing anything illegal, it isn't a cheap move..

Lmao! Point taken. Now that I really contemplate it the head-and-arm is probably the easiest throw(if u'd call it that) to escape, from the pushing of the arm from ur head and grabbing his hips and tossing him, to simply grabbing his torso and rolling into it.

When I was growing up in Wisconsin there was a wrestler named Shawn Ange (sp?) who won 2 state titles using the head-and-arm as his primary technique.

I wouldn't suggest having it as your go to move as I remember him doing, but if someone is calling it a "cheap" move, they shouldn't have a problem stopping it, right?

This is true. I mean if they're that much of a fool to be put into it then that's their problem i suppose.

Its a move that has pinned a lot of excellent wrestlers at one point or another. The only thing he did that was foolish was call it cheap.

Ohh haha thanks for the welcome. It's unnecessary though, i simply like to be involved and learn things from others who share my passion.

Agree with Schlottke. No legal move is cheap. Some moves in freestyle are kinda chintzy because they require little effort and depend on the opponent to make a mistake (ie rolling through an opponent on a bad shot) but the person who should feel dumb is the one getting scored on, not the one doing the scoring.

As mentioned, a headlock is pretty easy to defend. Some people don't like it because kids who only do headlocks leads to ugly wrestling. However, there's a pretty good cure for that- against more experienced opponents they get spanked.

In conclusion, keep throwing people- just make sure it isn't your only sucessful move.

To add to the discussion, sometimes we call a basic tilt a "cheap tilt".

I wouldn't say there is any shame in using it. It's just a quick way to get back points without really going for a pin.

I wrestled freestyle where the philosophy is a bit different- most ground scoring moves aren't pinning moves. Nonetheless I had a lot of fun in high school with freestyle "cheap tilts"- I'd just get my hands under their arms from on top and quickly tilt to one side or another. Doesn't work so well against sr. wrestlers though so I had to learn to gut wrench
