40 yrs after being paralyzed in mat accident, OK State's Ray Murphy dies at 62
Former Oklahoma State wrestler Ray Murphy died in his Tulsa home Tuesday, 40 years after he was paralyzed from the neck down in a wrestling accident. He was 62.
Murphy was a two-time NCAA Division I All-American for the Cowboys. However, the accident took place during an April 1970 freestyle tournament in Stillwater, Oklahoma sponsored by the U.S. Wrestling Federation (predecessor to today's USA Wrestling).
