[I still didn't like the Ironman preview (for technical reasons), but that's a minor matter. I have to add this comment, lest Jason think I'm being two-faced.]
From the moment I heard you call the Harry Lester-Cam Jones Fargo greco-final on an internet broadcast, I have been a fan. That was you correct? I think you said you drove to Fargo in a vehicle with over 300,000 miles on it (pick-up truck?). Great radio voice, too.
See what happens, you give me your autograph and you get this award. Eerie coincidence.... I THINK NOT!

Tell me about it, this morning, I woke up and I shit a squirrel, but what I can't get is the damn thing is still alive. So now, I've got a shit covered squirrel running around my office and I don't know what to name it.

First award with more to come.
Steve,
Rob Sherrill and I (or perhaps Mike New and I that year) did the web cast of the finals for a few years. Close on the truck, it was a 1989 Ford Bronco II with over 250K on it, a CD player that didn't work and no A/C.
Radio/broadcasting was the calling, wrestling has been the passion.
I can't recall the issue with the preview off the top of my head ...
Thanks for the comments,
JB
Edit: Here's that truck with a 165-pound hood ornament (no, we're not moving)
Around that time we had been plagued with some wrestling broadcasts that were not "optimum", shall we say. Both radio and TV. Either lack of knowledge or the individual just couldn't "spit it out".
Your broadcast was notewothy. As I listened I made a mental note: "this guy has "got it"". Knowledge, ability to call the action, with a great voice to boot. Maybe others felt differently.
Speaking of Cam Jones, I see he's listed on the Boise State roster.
Jones wrestled the conference tournament at 149 for Boise but didn't qualify for NCAA's. Not sure what his standing is going to be this year with Adam Hall potentially waiting to go 149.
Jones vs. Lester was one of the better Greco matches of the time. ... and I wasn't big (and still not) big on Greco.
... Been on the mic since I was a freshman in high school, done roundball on TV with Comcast and WHRO, wrestling with MediaLink and WCTV-48, and countless sports on WODU Radio -- which coincidentally was the "online host" for the Junior Nationals that year. I used my servers at the campus radio station to give it a solid network for people to listen in on.
Clarity of broadcast might have something to do with it....
