Yes Pope is one of my all time favorites. He was absolutly dominant for Bakersfield. The NCAA Div 1 crown was his for the taking, only to have the Iowa mystique and Rico Chiaprelli get the best of him. Unreal finish to the match.

Not totally sold on Powless, he is solid, but needs another year to develop. He will get tossed around like a rag doll in the Big 10 and he didn't win a particularly loaded weight class when he won state. Fagiano should stay at 197, no reason to move up. I think they said their heavyweight from this year won't be on the team, can't remember if he was ineligible or is transferring.

On paper their line-up looks pretty solid
    125- Angel- High AA
133- Ortega- Qualifier should win matches
141- Andrae- Mid to low AA
    149- Kinser- Low AA possibly
    157- Coughlin/Young- Low AA possibly
    165- Coughlin/Young- Low AA possibly
174- Perry- Has shown flashes of brilliance, but will probably be a qualifier
184- Powless- Will be lucky to qualify
197- Fagiano- Qualifier, should win some matches
    285- ????

Of course in my experience someone will break down and flat out not even come close to the expectations(see Andrae and Coughlin last year). I'm not sold on the IU coaching staff and would like to see some new blood in there.

I just talked to Angel and Andrae last Saturday, and Andrae said he was going 141. He looks big and will do a ton better at 141. They will have a hole at heavyweight again, they said, but other than that should have a pretty solid lineup.

I was there with Brett Law and Brad Maynard. I played briefly in Law's senior season. I had chronic shoulder dislocations back then and bowed out early in the season. Big part of why wrestling was tough for me in HS. I can tell you, because I know the people involved, that steroids were definitely present on those late 80s teams. Law was one of them, but there were others. It's too bad, too, b/c he was a phenomenal athlete without that garbage, but there was a lot of pressure on those teams. Brad Maynard graduated in my class and he's my friend. He never did any of that stuff. One look at him and it's clear. Always been long and lean. He still is the punter for the Bears, been in two Super Bowls.

One of my best friends is Wright's grandson. They have had some unimaginable tragedies in that family. I have nothing but respect for Wright.

I'm a little skeptical about the Peyton thing. I think it might have something to do with the Colts' success, but putting it all on Peyton seems like a little bit of a stretch. Also, football is just really popular everywhere right now, so I personally think that has more to do with the improvement in HS football here.

Man, if I had the answer to that I'd be a genius. There are usually a variety of factors that cause such things, but yes, 19% is ridiculously low. So low that you have to wonder if there isn't something structurally in the system that is bringing this about. I wish that I could give you an answer, but I honestly can't without seeing any population or demographic data. That could tell me a lot.

Russell, I would definitely consult with the surgeon before allowing the PT to push the envelope with you. It sounds as if there might be a conflict of interest with what is best for you and what is best for his study. I was a good 4 months into rehab before I began any weight exercises. You have lived for a long time with intense pain and very little hope. Having had no mobility of that shoulder or arm during that period your PT should be concentrating on slowly increasing your level of flexibility before working on increasing your strenght. All good things in time. You rushed rehab last time with diasterous results, do not allow yourself to be pushed to that point again. If it was me I would get the opinions of my surgeon, the opinion of the surgeon in the UK who pioneered the procedure, and armed with that information I would go with what I felt was a good progression rate for my therapy.
    Good luck my friend.

What was she trying to sell? Shoes? (a lot of foreign spammers try selling shoes here because we rank highly for "wrestling shoes".)

She mentioned TWT because she likely took your email directly from the front of the site.

Can you forward me the emails?

Odds are its because you have your email address as your username. If you want to prevent it from happening, we can change your Username to rpayton and keep your password the same.

Then when you log in, it won't display your email address.

The system sometimes hurts the people it is intended to help. Chalk that up to the people that abused it in the past and in the future.

Good news though, I made it to Fargo. I'll have some pictures from the action tomorrow through Saturday. My buddy that was supposed to come with me backed out on Friday, so I made the 14 hour drive by myself. It was quite a lot of fun entertaining myself for the drive!
  15. Don't worry about that -I have been fighting an uphill battle my entire life -besides -How bad could Death Row be ?

That is horrible news. Keep fighting it until they literally put you on the street.

I'm not their father, just their coach. I consider them my kids since I spend so much time with them. No kids.... for a while for me.
  18. I remember when I was young and was the local ''stud''-then went to an open tournament and got beat so bad i thought about giving up the sport -those early ''lessons'' are really hard -hope he recovers and learns to adapt and overcome -if he doesn't I'm quite sure you are a great father and will support him regardless -YOU are the most important person in his life now -I never knew my father so I idolized my coach-good luck and wish your -as Charlie Chan would say-your # 2 son well .

Its going good here. Had one of my kids go to junior duals and get his ass handed to him. He learned a lot, but it was a rough week for him. Now I'm working on getting another kid ready for Fargo. Hope to pull out a placement with him.

I am happy to hear that the surgery went well. My rehab was a long haul like I am sure yours will be. Do not rush it, be patient. I wanted off the meds so bad that I was willing to try any method to get out of the fog. What ended up working for me was an acupuncture session a few hours before PT and meditation after sessions. Here is an article from NPR that discusses new meditation techniques for pain management. Looks promising.
