because once you learn their stories, you realize they really aren't different from the "good guys" in the "good and perfect lands."
Unless you come from North Korea and Cuba or Iran. I doubt you will see too many stories about their athletes, at least not positive stories.
Romania was never considered an evil country. Soviet athletes were a given to succeed.
Romania was communist. I thought ALL communists were perceived as evil?
And if we don't get to see any stories about athletes from North Korea, Cuba, or Iran, it's likely because American media outlets aren't given access to those athletes. We can't hear the stories unless someone has a chance to learn about them.

Keep letting your biases color your views-it makes you sound worse. Romanians, especially in gymnastics, were DEFINITELY seen as evil. Russian success being a "given" makes it less likely that we will cheer them on. We have also heard a lot on Cuban boxers, and North Korean swimmers. If we don't hear the stories on American media, it's because they are not allowed to cooperate and give interviews to American media. Come on-get a clue.
Maybe there is a reason why they are not allowed to tell their stories. I doubt NBC is interested in saying something positive about North Korea, Cuba, or Iran. It will be more of the same. North Korea starves, Cuba is dirt poor and Iranians are religious fanatics. Or people from these three countries want USA to help overthrow their governments.
Do any of you know for example that North Korea has better subways and overall better public transportation than America?
Romania was communist but it fought against the Soviets in WWII. It was largely seen as oppressed by Soviet Union, hence a candidate for American sympathy.

Good stories are what sell. They are not allowed to tell their stories because it is easier for them to consider the US as evil, and lines of communication would shatter those perceptions, too, wouldn't they? You clearly have no clue what you are talking about, especially in regards to what the NBC wants (i.e. ratings), so this isn't a conversation with furthering.
Good stories sell but housewives turn their TVs off when they hear something positive about those three countries.
Who cares what they think of US? The stories are about them. you see, you automatically think like the capitalist by thinking during communication you will try to convince them about the goodness of USA. That's why they are not allowed to listen to this propaganda. Olympics is not USA. Its a big world out there.
I think Big is a closet housewife that is why he knows so much about them.
