I am watching the trials and they all can't keep their hands off of each other. Why are they so big on collar ties and grabbing each other's arms? Men usually stay away until they attack.

I am not sure; it is even like that at the youth level. Almost all of the girls try to throw head and arm, that is why Karissa doe's not tie-up and if she doe's it is only for about a 5 count then she will drop down and hit a shot or back away and reset for an attack.
Chances are if all they want to do is tie-up then they probably cannot defend a shot, so we drill shots and some other attacks a lot.

Most likely due to physiological differences between women and men. Typically, women have less upper body strength and much wider and stronger hips and legs. Therefore, when shooting in on your opponent, you are more likely to finish a shot if you have some kind of set up such as an arm drag or a russian tie that moves your opponent's body and creates angles to get in on the shot, as opposed to just shooting in from afar.
