Default Heidari retired from Wrestling

Today Alireza Heidari kissed the mat and farewelled wrestling.
He was in tears.
The big surprise came after the first game during which he beat his opponent (daliri) 4-0
Daliri had already beaten 2007 silver medalist Sayeed Ebrahimi.

I just cannot understand why ?
Why say goodbye now when he is in top form?
I hope they change his mind. He can retire after the Olympics.

One possible scenario/reason:

1- He displayed great form proving he can do well at the Olympics.
2- He didnt have to wrestle all the way which could possibly worsen his arm injury.
3- The wrestling fans/coaches would ask him to make himself available for the olympics.
4- Then after accepting the comeback request of the fans/coaches, there wont be any criticism of him wanting to make the olympics at the expens of younger ones.

This is just a possibility and I could be wrong of-course.
I personally wanted to see him at the olympics.

Another scenario is that Obama might have picked him as his running mate.

It looks like there was some credit to this speculation.
Iran's media is rampant with comments by the officials to invite Heidari to the national team for the Olympics.

In the pictures from the Russian nationals, I saw Sagid Murtasaliev (who can destroy Gatsalov, Muradov...) and some wrestling functionaries around him. I wonder did they use the occasion to ask him to return. A rematch of the 1999 worlds final Alireza v. Sagid is a clash I have always wanted to see.

akzent, I usually respect your opinion but I feel a deep favoritism in your comment on Murazaliev destroying Gatsalov and Muradov. Make no mistake, I do think murtazaliev is one of the greats but those two guys are not walk in the park either.

6 years ago; not to death as many newspapers reported.

Until 1996, while representing UKR, Murtasaliev was a very nice guy.
Then (for some reasons I would not discuss) he was in the jail.
When he went out and joined the Russian team in 1998 he was a very bad guy.
Just watch & compare his matches at the 1996 Olympics and at the 1998 Goodwill games where he appeared for first time internationally after studying the jail life (not to mention the later 1999 worlds and 2000 games). He would really destroy Gatsalov and Muradov.
