Beating Karelin was a big deal because of who he was and what his accomplishments were, not where he was from.

What the hell does gender have to do with it? I have plenty of male friends who are sports fan who I have to explain wrestling to.

The Olympic committee gets huge fees from the TV network becasue they go to the highest bidder. In order to make a profit the network has to show the events that bring the biggest audience and having paid all that money the network has a lot of influence over when the events take place.
The IOC should look at more than just $$$ when awarding the rights. There should also be consideration to which network will give the best coverage.

Because whether you like it or not there are more housewives that will spend hours watching Olympics than "househusbands" if there even is such a term.
