The Polish heavyweight was a freak of nature as well, he is a bad example for this discussion. 7 feet tall or more very little body fat, he would be unable to compete with the current weight stipulations. I am not a heavyweight, but I am against any weight restrictions at all for the heavyweight weight class. It really is not heavyweight anymore, it is 264. The pound restrictions have taken many possible wrestlers out of the sport.
LOL, yeah, and I'm 6'1" and 220 on my driver's license!
If the weight classes were restructured to include the old "Unlimited" class, what would be the next lowest? Wouldn't this require adjustment all the way down?
You could change the weights to, say, 110 kg and umlimited... though in all honesty, a bigger problem than the 120 kg cap is the gaps between the middle weight classes. 66-74-84 are huge jumps. For example, I weighed about 84 kg my last 2 years competing and I had to choose between sucking down 10 kg or wrestling guys coming down from 90 and higher.
I'm not sure what the old weights were... the Canadian University weights are pretty decent: 54, 57, 61, 65, 68, 72, 76, 82, 90, 130.. just need one between 90 and 130.
