Kiril (or if you want: Cyril) is born:

1. in the same region of the Balkans where the Cyril and Methodius bros., the inventors of the Cyrillic alphabet, were from. They invented it in the 860s and it was immediately accepted in Bulgaria. Hundred years later (late 10th century) it was introduced also in Russia. Until then Russian was a non-written language. This was the way how both civilization and the name Kiril came to Russia from the village of the future Olympic qualifier Kiril.

2. in the same village (Samuilovo) in Southwest Bulgaria where Barzakov was born.

Kiril is pronounced just that Ki-ril with an emphasis on second "I".

The names end in "ov" and "ev" because it means "son of". Batirov means son of Batir. When they first started using last names they signified who your father was. "Batirova" would be the last name for a woman meaning daughter of Batir. Then they just started using the same last names no matter your father's name but passed them on from generation to generation. I hope this is clear now.

You Russians distort everything you get from any civilized parts of Europe.
In Greek and Bulgarian, the original languages where from the name came to Russia, the emphasis is on the first I.

Well the hot tennis star's name is also pronounced Shar A pova, with an emphasis on second "a" unlike Americans pronounce it by putting an emphasis on the "o".
