Default Rasul Djukaev will represent Russia at European championships at 66kg

After winning Yarigin tourney Rasul Djukaev will wrestle at the European championships.

What makes Djukaev a special case is that he lives and trains in Chechneya. No other Russian team member lives and trains in Chechneya. Saitievs and Otarsultanov are in Krasnoyarsk.

Russian website states that wrestling has picked up tremendously in popularity in Chechneya after a dual meet against USA in 2006.

I thought it was always very popular in Chechneya.
Almost every chechen person I met knew a little bit or alot about wrestling.
I can imagine a match against usa increased the popularity, but it was already extremely popular.

The only decreasing factor in populaity is that nowadays loads of chechen people are discovering sports like boxing and kickboxing.
Same with mma. There are loads of them in Germany trying to make a career.

Wrestling has always been popular in Chechenia but no competions and no training camps were organized there for more than 10 years. Because of the wars and the afterwar situation there. Chechenian wrestlers practiced outside Chechenia - mostly in the neigboring Dagestan. The 2006 dual meet RUS vs. USA seems to have been the first wrestling tourney held in Chechenia since many years. When they are talking of increased popularity of wrestling they obviously mean not wrestling as sport, but wrestling as public event.

Yeah, by increased popularity they mean many more Chechens than before are now training in Chechneya. Apparently they all want to kick some American butt like in 2006
