I am interested in knowing who likes to watch wrestling under the current international rules. Not about whether you are happy with current performance. Greco seem's to have more mat time but not for freestyle.

I like the new rules now. I still think there is less scoring than there was prior to the changes. On average, wrestlers take less risks and block more when they have a lead. There is no passivity and therefore no ordered par terre. Par terre was one of the beauties of the sport and it has been practically eliminated.

Personally, I enjoy watching freestyle under the new rules about as much as during the old rules. A 1-0 1-0 stallfest in the new rules is, at least, shorter than a 1-1 9 minute match under the old rules. These Olympics had great freestyle wrestling IMO, time will tell if this is an abberation or not. The 80's matches that q_s and others have posted, when scoring was high, are the best.

I don't like the greco rules at all, either as athlete or competition. Some matches are fun to watch, too many end 1-1,1-1, but I find the whole format annoying and overly complicated.

I like them better now than I did in 2005.

I still very much prefer wrestling in the 80s to now. it was much more exciting.

The only thing i don't like is the last point wins concept and teh new pulling the ball out of the bag deal. The ball bag seems to be able to be manipullated by the officials.

Now that I have grown to like them, they will probably change soon...

I would suspect people who say the new rules suck without supporting their postion say so since we get our asses kicked at wrestling under the new rules. The only rules these folks would like are the ones that favor the USA.

I like them because you have action for periods in every period. If you got down 4-0 early under the old rules, you were doomed... the other guy blocked you out. At least now you can screw up, and live to see another day.

QS - As much as you like the 80's, the 70's were that much better. And it was even harder to score "technical points" in the 70's.
