Don't talk up askren without knowing his accomplishments.

If you knew wrestling you would know the difference between ncaa and olympics, and how much harder and competitive it is..

Askren isn't undefeated for years...he's lost THIS year internationally...to russian 3rd stringers.

Askrens my boy, but don't jinx him..he's got a long road ahead today.
him medaling would be a HUGE accomplishment...
I'm from Missouri bro. I watched every home match of his college career. And for the most part since then. As previously stated, I've been away from the sport lately, so if he lost this year, I wouldn't know. I would know about him dominating in almost every single match I've seen him in. And the difference between College and the Olympics is that these guys used to be in college wrestling and now they aren't.

If anyone Jinxes him, he's the one. He called it man, and I'm just here to silence the naysayers until he collects his hardware.

Zadick has been at the top before and one would think if anything, experience would have won out over youth and aggression. That is where I am coming from.

Askren is exciting to watch and win lose or draw, he's going to throw the bastards around... true or false?

As an American, it's kinda my duty to cheer my team on and purport our dominance over the world... until my prediction is proven to not be true, and considering my last one WAS true(against awesome odds no less), it might be ok for me to have some confidence. He does, why should I be different there?

4-0 Olympic champ.

You heard it here first. If not, you heard it from Ben

stop there...

NCAA wrestling is more aggressive and more points are scored. Being more aggro means you leave yourself open... the difference between the two levels is immense, sure. At one level, people circle for the entire match and sometimes score, usually don't score and the match is decided by the ref or a bad call(in the case of this olympics).

At the college level, guys are still in the mentality of always attacking. You saw that tonight with Henry... his youth and drive to constantly keep attacking, constantly keep pushing... his older and more experienced opponents couldn't handle his pace and they paid the price.

Who do you honestly think is a more aggressive wrestler... Henry or Ben?

Who has a better points for:: against ratio?

Who has more falls?

Who has more experience?

Again... this "level" that you make out to be so awesome... a freaking child just took the gold medal at this level. Not to diminish it at all, I'm very proud... just saying, it's not only possible--with him it's likely.

There's no comparison between the two weights. 55 had some tough guys, but Askren has to go through a Murderer's Row just to make the finals. All we have to go on is past results, and Askren has lost internationally to wrestlers who didn't make the Olympics. That said, so did Cejudo. I have a hard time seeing Askren medal, but I hope he proves me wrong. I was one of the guys who said he'd never do well in freestyle, so there you go.

Does anyone have any information about the guys that Schwab wrestles? I think Doug has what it takes to be an olympic champion. I don't thinkt that anyone out trains him. That being said, I don't know jack about his opponents.

As for Askren. I hope he wins gold for the US, but I also think that he should have just shut his mouth and went out and wrestled. Pretty arrogant for a guy that hasn't done anything internationally to be calling out one of the all time greats. I don't like his style, wrestling or otherwise, but I will be pulling for him today.

Wow! This guy is worse than Big was about Nickerson!

Dude, if you're from Mizzou then you'd also remember when Ben was getting worked by Pendleton, every time they met. So, unbeaten only lasted for 2 years. On this very website, you can find video of Ben getting worked by Russian's who didn't make the Olympics.

We're all hoping Askren does well. I bought two of his chin in china shirts to support him. However, NCAA titles don't mean anything at this level.

Speaking of tough draws, 66 kg has our second world final rematch in the first round with Shahin and Garzon meeting up.

In terms of Askren, I will be rooting my ass off for him. But I gotta believe it when I see it, this weight class is absolutely unreal.

To parrot quick, if he does win it'll be the greatest single tournament accomplishment for an American wrestler, ever.

Think USA v Soviet Union in hockey, circa 1980.

Possible but certainly not probable. If I was betting my lifesavings it wouldn't be on Askren. Since cheering is free, I WILL be rooting for him though.

Hey, Bro, I went to Mizzou, too. Graduated in '01, and was there for the bad times as well as the good ones. I have watched every second that I could of Ben wrestling, and I do have faith in him. I do think he can win gold. But you are making yourself sound like an uneducated idiot. We are all cheering on Ben, and we all have faith in him. Baseless claims do not equal faith.

By the way, look up purport in a dictionary before you use it again.

Askren got beat 4-0, 4-0 by the third best russian.... but you are right he is going to walk right through the hardest weight class the world has ever seen. I will be rooting for Askren, but you are ignorant or on hard drugs.
