Re: Wow, is there anything better American media can put together about wrestling?
To deny there is corruption in International wrestling just proves how much you don't know.

Tell me about it, this morning, I woke up and I shit a squirrel, but what I can't get is the damn thing is still alive. So now, I've got a shit covered squirrel running around my office and I don't know what to name it.

FILA has plenty of resources to promote the sport internationally. Why must it be the US web sites (specifically the NGB) which promotes the Olympic wrestling movement more than the IOC's sporting representative.
It's not the job of the media to identify solutions, unless it's a column. This story sheds light on a growing, but prevalent thought process by those who follow international wrestling not named "Big." All kidding aside, it identifies what seems to be a problem. It's not the media's job to fix things, especially when the Swede covering the Abrahamian story allegedly (i stress allegedly) received death threats.
FILA says it's controlling the wrestling itself, not what surrounds the sport. Well, with all the scoreboard errors and miscommunication at the 2007 Worlds, it's a wonder what those posh-chaired attendees actually do other than schmooze on how cool and how important they are.

I agree completely.
The Phelps issue is not related to corruption, but I don't think he is the greatest athlete ever. He is simply able to be in more events than any other athlete and thus allowing him the chance to win more medals than anyone else. Is he possibly the greatest swimmer of all time-YES, greatest athlete-NOT IN MY OPINION.
In sports that are timed and scored by actual measurable devices makes it a lot harder to have corruption. They touch pads in the pool and the traps being shot by a gun are not arguable, but judges or referees that can dictate the outcome are capable of all sorts of corruption.

Well, I did hear my local (Virginia) sports talk radio host mention that swimming was the only sport you could do this.
"Who's going to run eight events in Track & Field ... and you can't do some things more than once in sports."
I actually called into the show (I'd been a regular caller since the fifth grade) and commented specifically about wrestling. The only instance of more than one medal in wrestling would be if someone wrestled both styles and won. That would be remarkable if it ever happened again.

Men's gymnastics it would be possible to win 8, although that would be unlikely since it would mean sweeping every event. Vitaly Scherbo came close with 6 golds in 1992.
