Default minguzzi's lift for gold proves he's legit.

this was super clever. he starts by faking straddle lift and waits for the post and bump counter. the hungarian counters and minguzzi is able to jump to a side lift and get the hungarian off of the mat. his finish was just as impressive. just your basic land on face throw. very smart moving to the zone to guarantee at least one for the push out. my only question is why did he wait for the third period to try this?

he just said on Italian television that he had noticed earlier that he could find an opening that way, but decided to "keep" it in case he needed to score at all costs. If he had tried when the draw favored him, it would have been much more difficult for him to find another way to score in the third round

it was a great tactic. i was very impressed how cleanly he was able to get his right foot in position for the side lift.
btw what happened in the semi's that got the swede so pissed off?

After losing the first round 1-1 he was penalized in the second round after it was already over. Italian newspapers report that the penalty was due to Abrahamian lifting both hands from the ground to disturb Minguzzi's attack and trying to break the hold by twisting the Italian's fingers; they say that the referee awarded the penalty but the judges didn't notice it, so the score didn't change until the round ended. Abrahamian thinks he has been screwed by corrupt judges, and is backed by his federation.

I bet Abrahamian did get screwed over by the judges during his loss to Minguzzi. They were talking about how Minguzzi's like best performance internationally was like reguraly placing in the high 20s during the world championships over the last couple of years. And also how one of FILA's top vice presidents is Italian, and then suddenly a year later, out of the blue this guys wins the Olympics, after like his best placings were like 25 and 27 at worlds and stuff. I bet no one even knew about this guy until like the other day. I how refs and all that are getting paid and threatened to just hand over a match to a certain wrestler that wouldn't even win it. Also that ref was italian and was best friends with the vice president of the italian wrestling body.

he got bronze at the 08 and 07 euros. for the new guys on here that's very impressive and a good indication that a guy is the real deal.

The new rules have obviously leveled the playing field. No payoff here. Remember, Minguzzi did beat the 2004 gold medalist from Russia in the quarterfinals, didn't he? I didn't see any questionable calls there. I will say, however, that the current rules make Greco even more boring than it ever was, and the best technician doesn't always win. They've lowered it to not much more than a defensive battle. I don't currently have any suggestions about how to fix that, but it's something to think about.
