I generally like the new rules and I can follow them without too much difficulty (helped that I wrested under them, I guess.) Still hate the 1-1 penalty periods in greco though.

Russian coaches before olympics said if you want to win for sure in any country under any rules you have to be head above your competition. Otherwise you are bringing in an element of luck where it is anybody's match.

If you noticed my post in the Mango thread you'll see that I agree with you.

The Russians wrestle constantly under these rules, and they have a heavy financial incentive to do so. Thats why they win.

We lift and cut weight, and then leave the sport early since theres no money in it.

Agreed, but today's greco rules make it harder to be dominant if the recent results are any indication. There seem to be few consistantly sucessful wrestlers under the new greco rules.

yesterday in mangos match I watched mango and his opponent get cautioned and his opp penalized for not reverse clinching correctly, in fact there was so much confusion it was practically a rest period. Then today when i watched TC's match he barely touched the top of the persons back but there was no caution or warning it just seems odd to me and somewhat unfair when the referee does not speak a language either wrestler understands and he is trying to use hand signals to tell the wrestlers what he wants and both wrestlers are putting their arms up and shrugging their shoulder as if to say we have no idea what is going on.

ok so i go to the official beijing site and it says jake and TC(if he makes it in) both wrestle at 16:30 on Wed. Aug. 13, is that our time or the time in Beijing, and if it is in Beijing when will it be on here

I whole heartedly agree with the Russian coaches comment as well as I think we spend too much time on cutting weight and less time on technique. I agree I'd wrestle a lot harder for 1mil. It goes back to my argument of taking care of these guys, 25k a year and all the camps they can squeeze in to make extra money is not enough.

The Silent Gladiator may have skewed my view but a lot is true.

Just went through NBC's archived matches to see some of the stuff that I missed.

- Rough go for Deitchler in that consi match, lost the (I guess I'll just go out and say it) ball grab all three periods and that pretty much did him. Thems the breaks though.

- The French dude that won gold at 66 is just a straight up grinder, nothing special just tough.

- Manuchar is an absolute animal. That was a battle he had in the semi's with the Hungarian, but other than that he just dominated people.
